Sun visor extension

Hello,
I have a 2015 170 RWD Sprinter. When I am driving down the road and the sun is directly coming in the driver window or the passenger window, there is no way to extend the sun visor to block the sun. The last third of the window isn’t blocked. My Subaru and VW have a “rail” that the visor can slide on to completely blocking the sun.
Has any one found a good solution? I called Mercedes and they had no solution to offer.
Thanks in advance!
Tim

Maybe get creative with the overland viso organizer. Make yourself an extension that is the size of the visor that you could slide out when needed. I know it would stay in place with the organizer

Yep, the Sprinter visor does not block the sun entirely from the side. It absolutely needs an extension or slide back mechanism like many vehicles have, a a secondary fold-back visor. I think it was Overland Journal that reviewed an excellent "add-on" visor to augment poor factory visors such as the Sprinters but I cannot find a link to that review or company but will check again and post, as I'm sure many of us would like to have an improved visor for all of the time we spend on the road during daylight.

The Sprinter Store sells a set of dark canvas side visors attached with magnets. Easily folds up when not in use and fits in the door pockets.

Even if my windshield visors did rotate to the side, I would still use these detachable side visors, as blocking the sunlight on the top of windshield is so much better for my eyes. To each his own.

These side visors block sunlight at the same level as the windshield visor would if it rotated. Works for me.

Opening your window going down the road is not advised with these side visors. They might get sucked out the open window. It is easy enough to pull them down when not needed.

I have been looking for these but can’t seem to find them - any chance you can post a link

Back in 2006 i visited auto parts stores to find whatever various "solutions" might exist for various Sprinter issues.
My 2005 T1N visors could NOT swing to even partially cover the side windows. (fixed one-way hinges)

Then i found this set of strap-on shaded plastic visor "extensions". They can drop, swing, flip to (try to) cover the gaps and needs
Later on, a forum member made and sold hinge replacements for the original MB hinges, which allow the original visor to swing to the side ...but i've left the strap-ons in place, since they can cover that last bit when needed.

There are (many) times when that plastic is not opaque enough, and i'll drape a piece of folded paper over it (in the on-the-side situation)

Such things do exist ...they just take hunting down.

For the side windows you can get the deflectors, they add about 2" of tint:

I was thinking of making a magnetic curtain that would clip in from top of the window. Fortunately the Sprinter's seat is quite high, so you can easily shade off about half the side windows as see traffic.

I was planning on a 5" strip of dark tint across the top of the side windows and maybe a 10" strip across the windshield.
All the windows are tall enough that it won't obscure anything.
I hesitate to do anything to the windshield though, because I break so may of them that it seems like time wasted
if I improve it in any way.....

I also have a plastic drop down see-through visor on my drivers visor for those times when I am driving directly into the setting sun. Rarely used but when I need it, it is appreciated.

The side magnetic visors were from the Sprinter Store in Tualatiin, Oregon. I have seen similar front cab detachable side visors somewhere, but hopefully the Sprinter Store still sells them. Google can be your friend.

3Play, living in Arizona allows you to tint the windshield and side windows as dark as you want, or they used to. Here In Ca. no such luck. No tint film on the windshield is allowed. None. The front side windows can be tinted to a medium degree that one can clearly see through, as in the 'man' being able to see you clearly. Maybe a dark tint film on the top portion of the glass would be allowable as long as an officer can see you clearly.

The magnetic side visors shade about the same area of the top of the side windows as the fold down visor does on the windshield.

3M makes a clear film for the windshield that cuts UV 80%? or so. I think we in Ca. could get away with that if it was not tinted. It doesn't help with driving into the sun for shade, but cutting UV has its value too.

My google skills are normally pretty solid but I was referring specifically to the sprinter online store - I found an alternate but will keep looking for the magnetic side window versions

I'm okay with the vertical forward blocking in the VS30, but the visors (when swiveled) aren't long enough to cover the upper rear corner of the door windows.
I got some extensions, but the straps were too small to fit over the visors, and the sliders were kind of fiddly to move in and out.

I have some black ABS and am thinking of cutting it and strapping it so I can slide it, but the edges of the ABS are sharp enough that it'd probably damage the visor or at least the OEM strap on it.
Any other material suggestions?

I thought for 2 seconds about making a set but then I found these. They work great but did require 4" of velcro extension (for each strap) to make it around the visor. I carry a roll of 3/4" velcro, it's too useful to not. A pair for $20, tough to beat and the pockets and glasses holder actually work really well.

I've been tossing around the idea of a wrap-around airplane cockpit style visor rail in all of my vehicles.....
