2006 2500 Dodge Sprinter, 310k miles, 140” wheelbase, super high roof. I got the van at 268k and have mainly driven it highway miles while traveling around the country. I had the intention of converting it but instead put that money into maintaining it. The result is a van with many of the wearable parts replaced.

The inside has been gutted with sound-deadening rubber applied to the body panels. It has a rudimentary bed platform which you can keep or lose. Engine is in awesome shape, it trucks on the highway. A/C and heat work fine. Power locks/ windows/ and mirrors. Has minimal rust, hardly any around the windshield.

Repairs by prior owners:
  • Repainted at least once
  • Remanufactured turbo
  • New oil separator
Repairs done in the 42,000 miles since I’ve owned it:
  • Replaced serpentine belt, tensioner, idler pulleys
  • Replaced speakers with Pioneer’s
  • Installed turbo resonator eliminator
  • Replaced all but one of the coolant hoses
  • Replaced one of the fuel filter fuel lines
  • Replaced fuel lines at high pressure pump
  • Changed rear differential fluid
  • Replaced both charge air hoses
  • Replaced Glow plug #1
  • Cut out rust under driver’s side step and patched with new steel
  • Treated rust/ caulked roof seams that were leaking
  • Replaced rear axle u-bolts
  • Insulated floor corrugations in front of the bed platform with closed cell foam
  • Weathertech wind deflectors
  • Oil changed every 10k miles since I’ve owned it
  • All new light bulbs except for rear top brake light (still good)
  • Both tail light bulb holders replaced
  • Driver side tail light lens replaced
  • Replaced front struts
  • Installed front alignment shims
  • Replaced front sway bar end links/ bushings
  • Replaced rear shocks
  • Power steering fluid flush/ fill @284k miles
  • Turbo oil drain gasket replaced
  • Used transmission put in at at 292k miles by Dennis at LinDen Engineering, has the common ‘rumble strip noise’ these transmissions are known for
  • 5 General Grabber tires installed & balanced+alignment at 304k miles
  • New engine air/ cabin air/ fuel filters at 304k
  • Brake fluid changed twice since I’ve owned it (most recently at 305k miles)
  • Oil change, coolant flush, new thermostat, new aux coolant pump, new water pump, new Mass Air Flow Sensor at 308k miles
  • VA safety inspection good through 10/21
Issues:
  • Glow plug #2 head sheared which triggers the CEL (not addressed since I’ve owned it, would need professional extraction)
  • Rear differential pinion bearing on its way out, mechanic said the wear isn’t so bad yet so it’ll go a while longer
  • Steering rack has a small leak
  • Middle windshield wiper speed doesn’t work
  • Has a hiccup on acceleration that has been an issue since I’ve owned the van. The hiccup is worse when lightly accelerating. It does not affect overall usability, just more of an annoyance. Mechanic says it could be the crankshaft position sensor or EGR valve
  • Driver’s side rear door has a crack near the striker pin that needs a simple weld, but the doors both shut.
  • Gas tank has a leaking seal at the top, so it will leak if completely filled. I fill it to 4/5 full and don’t have a problem
  • Needs a plastic striker plate for the rear doors
  • Missing a small plastic body panel at the rear
  • Passenger side window switch ‘up’ function doesn’t work
Comes with
  • 3 keys: one that only unlocks doors, one standard key, one remote key (needs battery)
  • New parking break shoes to install when the current ones wear out
  • Extra fuel filter
  • Oil filter removal tool
  • Fan removal tool
  • Assorted fuses, gaskets, clamps, bulbs
