Removing/installing metal holding plate housing on side panel (the rubber magnet receptor on rear side panels)

I am having a h**l of a time removing this item, which receives the magnet from the rear doors, from a parts van. If you have done this for a T1N, please describe and if you have pictures, even better. I *think* I should be able to somehow hammer out or otherwise remove the U-shaped aluminum holding plate, which does not seem attached, but I can't get it to budge. Thanks in advance

I cut the rubber part to remove the plate and retainer, then unscrewed the remaining rubber chunk as normal. New parts are approx $9 per rubber housing, $1.50 per retainer, $15 per plate. You might have better luck separating the plate and retainer off the vehicle, in which case just $18 for the 2 rubbers. I was able to lever the clip out by using a pair of adjustable pliers (e.g. Channelock, Knipex or similar) -- one jaw against the bottom leg of the clip, and one jaw against the catch plate. Knowing what the clip looks like helps visualize where to apply force.
