My local Sprinter dealership had their first 4 cylinder diesels arrive. Super excited that this powertrain has finally returned. Absolutely love mine.
Do you think 2021 Mercedes sprinter 2500 with 4 cylinder Diesel engine are reliable ?

What do you deem reliable? Are you on top of all maintenance or no? Do you make short or long trips with the van? This would play into the reliability of any Diesel engine.

I am good with maintenance with all my vehicles. I just want to make sure that 2021 Mercedes 2500 4 cylinder Diesel engine will hold for long trip . Especially after adding everything bulging everything inside , ceiling, floor , cabinets, kitchen and bed . Thank You

Yes they are reliable. The OM651 2.1L 4-cylinder diesel engine is the most widely used engine on Sprinters globally. Glad they are now available again in USA. Plan to order one myself soon.

That's on my bucket list as well, but so far fuel for DEF-equipped vehicles is questionable on the route.
Gas engine seems to be easier choice.
I think if you maintain the engine properly and do the services on time, you will be more successful with a diesel truck for long distance.

Hey! Where do you live and what model would you order? I have a TON of incoming and in stock inventory if you are interested :)

If I missed it, that is on me. Dual turbo, or not?

The last one we had here in the States seemed to cover all the bases, and needed no manual shifting to keep it from lugging the motor, like the rest of us should keep in mind. Or not.

I think the 4 cyl. Diesel is dual stage turbo. Single turbo, but there is a valve that supplies the turbo with exhaust air thru 2 pathways, one lower rpm one higher rpm. Very unique design that eliminates turbo lag in low RPM.
Pretty much nice, immediate, throttle response in all rpm stages. Very responsive.

I loved mine for the first 45 days of ownership until a NOX sensor on the upstream failed 8 days ago. NOW it is sitting at Dealer unable to be driven with NO Estimated Repair date due to Global Shortage of NOX sensors. NO eta on part NO eta on repair (online search shows others waiting months) but Mercedes is still shipping vans with all the NOX Sensors to new consumers to purchase so ...... beware if you buy one and have a simple warranty repair failure your brand new van may become unusable with no repair date or concern from Mercedes or Dealers. Mercedes USA offers no solution either simply takes the claim and files it away. My 2011 I sold to buy this new 2021 was perfect for 11 years.... Parts supply issues is going to be the demise of a lot of business if this keeps up. 3 weeks until I file a Buy Back! Lemon Law case.

This is what I’m afraid of also… without sinking into yet another political thread, this is caused politics and this administration not knowing anything on how to run a government and then stand back and let people live and the economy grow. Liberals think they know how every aspect of our lives should be lived and they’re going to tax the mess out of us until we have nothing else to give all in the guides of their quest for the greater good. The greater good in other countries made them all fail in a short amount of time. Ships waiting to dock at California is just a hint of what socialism can do to a once prosperous nation very quickly.
like I said in another thread, if we keep going this way we are all going to live in these non running vans, some of which people are willing to spend $295,000 on. Sad but true.

Or maybe the ‘just in time’ supply chain had/has so little slack we’ve been tempting fate for years.

Sucks that MB doesn’t allocate more parts to keep existing vehicles running vs. building more compounding the problem.

Don't assume other car manufacturers are better. I was thinking Mercedes service is bad in some aspect after owning 5 plus sprinters and bought a transit, lol
What did I do?!?

so if we delete emissions parts to keep us on the road, the government will fine us and keep us from driving them. believe me they will do this…
We can always do like the Cubans and put old boat motors in these vans to keep them running.
