Replacing Front Engine Seal... Need to drain oil first?

I have a 2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 (3.0 L v6 Diesel Turbocharged) and must replace a front engine seal located behind the EGR valve. I don't believe it's necessary to drain the oil first because the oil sump is located much lower than the seal. However, I would like confirmation from anyone who knows for certain. Thanks!

You are right. Should not be necessary even though a few drips might come out.
