EGR Valve Seized: Valve Removal for proper clean out

I’ve benefited from this forum greatly over the past 6 months. Yesterday I discovered that my EGR was seized and despite soaking in acetone for 1 hour, it would not budge unless motivated by vice grips. and came up with a solution to repair my seized EGR Valve that I haven’t seen mentioned before, so wanted to share because I’ve seen many threads with people struggling to clean the valve.
The valve impeller is spot welded on, so can be removed easily with a large drill, drilling about 3 mm into the impeller, after which the shaft can be punched out after removing the electric actuator first though on the other end.
You now have access to clean the bore and shaft with a brush and emery cloth. Then reassemble, ensuring the valve is closed and snaps freely. Tig weld the end back together (I used no filler, TIG set to 70 amps and zapped 4 times) and you are good as new. 77F0463E-8F62-49A4-9BE1-D4B80A6AAD85.jpeg
