Hi,
I bought a 2003 Sprinter a month ago ( camper conversion) and I am loving it. I am excited to join this community and become an expert on this beast.
I have a really annoying issue. It won't start when the engine is fully warmed up, and I have to wait for it to dip under 180 degrees before it will commence operation. However, if I turn it off and immediately restart it, it starts just fine. I have replaced the crank and cam sensors, but the problem did not go away. My glow plug light is on, but I assume that is not part of the problem. There are no check engine lights on, and it starts great when it's cold.
The previous owner replaced in 2018: MAF, fuel pump, fuel rail, fuel hoses and lines, fuel filter and manifold gasket, glow plugs and relay.
Please advise, I was considering replacing the coolant temp sensor next.
*p.s. - I know there are a lot of threads on this problem. I have not seen a single thread mention that they were able to restart their car immediately after turning it off, but not a minute afterward. Perhaps someone smarter than me can give me a wise tip!.
** EDIT - I forgot to mention two clues in my original post, so I will update it.
1. Van cranks but does not start
2. Van has died two times while going up a steep mountain road at 60mph on 100+ degree day. It did not overheat, it simply shut off. After twenty minutes of cooling off, it was able to restart and finish the journey.
