Cutting clean holes in factory headliner for puck lights?

I am cutting my headliner right now and it is compressed cardboard with fabric on top. Sharp utility knife is all it takes to cut.
For cloth painting you need shellac primer, or at least oil based.

I used foam cutter, clean hole but tool was expensive. Edges of my holes are exposed so clean cut was necessary for me. Sacrificing a hole saw by grinding the outside edge would make a cut cleaner using saw in reverse.

@GeorgeRa it looks like you have a track or supports mounted behind your headliner in these pictures? What did you put there? Any other pictures?

I ran a standard hole saw in reverse a few spins then forward nice and easy with no problems.

Bump for reverse hole saw. Works great.
