Exhaust pipe confusion - help

My van a 2000 311cd1 minibus had an exhaust pipe that came out at the side but it seems like the end bit has fallen off somewhere so now the exhaust ends under the van. I've looked on exhaust websites but cant find the pipe that goes to the side.

If any one could help identify the part i need that would be great

Gordie,

I do not believe MB ever offered a side exit exhaust as factory OEM so your pipe will almost certainly have been modified at some point. A bit like the side exit on my 2004 MH which was modified by the converter.

My side exit fell off early last year, see my postings on this thread... https://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?p=814663

I still had the straight section of pipe so bought a 90° bend in 63.5 mm stainless from eBay... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253111417999 and used two appropriately sized 'U' bolt clamps again from eBay.

The 63.5 mm dia bend fitted snuggly over the 2.1/4" standard pipe as explained in the linked post and then the straight pipe fitted back inside the other end of the bend.

I can possibly find a photo or two if you want.

Keith.

I think it had a side pipe because it used to have a Wheelchair tail lift fitted which was removed when we bought the van.
I'm guessing now there is no tail lift i can just fit the standard end pipe

MB did make T1N side-exhaust systems, both in front of, and behind the rear axle.
The option codes were:
K60 exhaust straight to the rear
K63 exhaust side exit, behind rear tires
KA3 exhaust side exit, in front of rear tires

My US parts catalog does not describe the varying tailpipes, instead it lists cryptic option codes.

Thanks for the update Dick, but unfortunately no mention of exhaust on my Data Card so I'm certain it was modified by the MH converter.

This is how it looked several years ago when I thought about replacing the mild steel bend but never did, that was until nine months ago when it finally fell off!

The rear edge of the main silencer is just visible at the top of the photo. The side exit clears the rear spring front hanger by nearly an inch after replacing with the St St bend I linked to above.

Probably. You might check that the rear most hanger behind the axle is there/intact.

Not that anyone asked...

I converted my 2004 2500 cargo model to a side exhaust years ago. To date there have been no negatives associated with the side exhaust. The DIY fabrication and install was easier for me vs keeping the original style exhaust. YMMV.

I kept the side exit exhaust even though I installed a glass pack muffler.
