H... Did they say why you couldn't place an order until November? ....

I was told last week (by an Cdn dealer) that for Germany, September production is closed, and October production will open mid August. Thus I am waiting for confirmation on a 144" 4x4 crew.

I think I misunderstood. I thought you couldn't *place* an order until November. Not that you could receive the van in November. Thats pretty reasonable.

I sat with my dealer in FL today and tried to put in an order for a 2020. It seems like a lot of the options listed in the 2020 DOG were not available on cargo or crew 4x4 or 3500
CB8:Stabilzation level II
CB1: Suspension for comfort and load protection
CT1: Rear spring vibration absorbers
E1U: USB-C
EK1: Body builder connector
FJ5 R and L storage compartment lids,
E40: Trailer hitch prep wiring
FF4: Storage compartment
J65: Outside temp gauge
RS5:8.5J x16 steel wheels
but when he tried to place the order with the available options it came back as allocation not available. He is going to try to find a build this week that he can trade for but said if not I would have to wait until Dec to place my order. Are the 2020 Germany builds open? Has anyone seen the new Stone Gray or Silver Gray?
Thanks

If you are in FL try Natalie Furno with Mercedes of Coconut Creek...I have shopped around and she was able to provide the best deals.
Let her know Isaac Sent ya

I placed my order for a 170 4x4 in July In Rochester NY and could only get a November build date. It’ll still be a 2020 the dealer tells me. Should be ready by late December. Fingers crossed.

Same here. Placed my order 8/1 and have a build date of Mid November. Couldn't get the additional battery in engine compartment and leather steering wheel. Both are unavailable at this time. Additional battery under the co-driver seat was available but not with swivel seats. I chose the factory swivel seats over the extra battery.

I chose the factory swivel seats as well. I didn’t get the additional battery as I’m planning a decent size house bank that can be used to charge the engine battery if necessary. My fear is that if any of my options are back ordered or unavailable at all at the time of build that they’ll bump the whole order rather than consulting if the item is a deal killer or not. We’ll see. I haven’t seen much in the posts about this.

Loving it! Over the mountain pass and back here in Oregon and averaged 21.2 mpg average on the first tank. Tires and wheels just showed up so I’m sure I’ll knock that down a bit ?
What size wheels/tires did you get and how did it change the MPG? I have a 2020 4x4 coming this month and trying to figure out my tire size and keeping the MPG in mind.

I was told US Mercedes will stop making the 4X4 vans until August '21 due to high demand of the other vans.
Might be that Amazon put in an order for 20,000 of them.

I just got the last one coming into Minneapols... should be here this month.
2020 170 High Roof. Loaded up front... bare in the back.
Now... the buildout planning... every builder out there is booked... likely a blessing as I'll just have to do what I can and sub out what I can't... It's winter in Minneapolis with no heated space... so this could get interesting.
Great to find this forum, some great info.
Starting with:
Wheels/tires
Insulation
Heated Floors: https://www.vanlifetech.com/hydronic-heating-systems
Solar:
Flarespace as I'm 6'2".
Windows.
Then plan from there....

Flarespace is an interesting idea on a 170. I'd say its a must on a 144, optional on a 170, depending on really needing the extra space. Good luck with your build!

275/70/17 - BFG K02 - I probably lost 2 mpg if I had to guess but didn't really drive it enough in stock form to get a good average. I'm averaging 17 around town now and 19 on freeway keeping around 70 mph. Drops off if I speed much. I now have about 6K miles on the tires so the averages are pretty solid. I got 17mpg pulling an aluminum trailer with 4 motorcycles and van full of gear (350lb bikes, not dirt bikes) ....but was slower rural roads going about 60 mph. Hope that helps

Just read in a German Facebook group (just rumors, but the guy sounded that he knows what he is talking about the the 2021 models will have a 4Matic AWD system instead of manual 4x4 with low range. Also that there will be no 6cyl engine on the new models.
