Sprinter Westfalia water pump

I cannot find directions on how to reach and change the water pump in a sprinter westfalia rig. Can someone point me to a site where I can find the instructions?
Do you pull the pump out when winterizing?
Do you run it a bit with empty water tank?
Or is emptying tanks, flushing air through system and antifreeze in traps good enough?
Has anyone considered using a 12V heater for the inside of the van when in storage if van connected to solar panels in winter?[it doesn't sound too safe to me]
Thanks

[Not normally, but you can if you want.]

Do you run it a bit with empty water tank?

[NEVER run fresh water tank water pump without water. Pump will burnout quickly.]

Or is emptying tanks, flushing air through system and antifreeze in traps good enough?

Solar won't give you enough power for any significant heat. For heat, you really need to burn some fossil fuels. Propane or Diesel heaters are popular.

An Espar D2 Diesel heater will give you about 7500 BTU / Hour, sun or no sun. That is equivalent to 2.2 kW of electricity. You would be lucky to fit 500W on the roof of a Sprinter, usually much less, and it will make way less than that in the winter when the sun is not overhead and will make nothing at night. You can't come close to fossil fuels when it comes to heat.

Solar panels are at most 23% efficient, so I would bet the sun shining on your vehicle will make way more heat than the solar panels could provide.

The Westfalia water pump for pumping tap water is the exact same as the 1986-1991 Westfalia VW, and GoWesty.com has them for $30. Get 2, they are prone to fail, and easy to replace. TURN OFF POWER. Open the tank behind the bench seat, screw open the cap, stick hand and arm in and pull out the hose and tank, take off the old one, put on the new one, drop into tank, screw back on. Turn power on. Voila.
