Thanks Vic, this is good to see. I haven't been around here lately but I was pricing up struts today and thought I'd look on here. Do you know what the difference is between the regular and super-high roof models? I'm assuming the SHR are stiffer to reduce roll. Can they be used on a standard roof van? Partly I ask because they (high-roof) are cheaper at the moment.

And keep in mind that the normal struts differ from the Cab/Chassis
(my previous mid-info has been corrected by Vic/AquaPuttana below)

Because I know that the Monroe 553002 work for my T1N's, I haven't dug past the extended length, etc. for any differences. One possible method would be to use the OEM part numbers which I included in some of the information.

Some of the specs which I dug out to post here weren't easy to find. Not all suppliers, or even manufacturers list the tech specs.

And keep in mind that the 15" wheel struts are different from the 16" wheels.

Are they? The listed differences that I saw were related to SHC and Cab Chassis.

Your 901 320 22 30 Sachs number shows under the Bilstein 22-214751 in the first group. The struts which I put in the first group share similar extended and compressed values.

Are the shocks in the first group that I listed an exact replacement for your Sprinter? :idunno:
The first group are all in the same number range as to general specs. Your numbers are included in the listing.

I was thinking yesterday while driving home. (Always dangerous.)

My information above shows that there are two very similar, but different length struts available for the T1N Sprinters. The length difference might not be noticed unless the units are compared side by side.

Some owners have reported problems with getting proper camber. If an incorrect set of struts was installed could that result in a change in camber?

I don't think the strut will change the camber. All the struts I have seen have the flange coincident with the strut axis. Any offset or change in this would require different parts left/right. Since they are all interchangeable, its safe to assume the struts are symmetrical. The vans with higher ride height (North american 16" wheel models) will have a different knuckle/spindle, which places the strut mounts correctly for camber at that height.

I have seen plus/minus 1 degree variance in strut mounting flange placement, likely due to manufacturing tolerances.

Does anyone now what is the nut tread size for Red Koni front struts 87 2638?

Struts came without nuts
thanks!
I can't answer your question.
The top nuts are inside and don't deteriorate. I used the flanged nuts off the removed struts for my Monroe struts. That should also work for the Koni shocks.

I added a bunch of general information to the Strut Install Write-up. Rather than duplicate it here I'll include this link.

Picture comparison of 3 struts.

The mounting holes in all 3 aftermarket struts (KYB, Bilstein, Monroe) were slightly smaller than the removed OEM Sachs 904 320 series strut.

T1N FrontStrutInfoSachsMountHoles05.jpg

Bilstein, Sachs, and KYB offer a shorter and a longer style T1N strut. I didn't find another version of Monroe. It appears that the Monroe 553002 would work as a one size fits all. Keep in mind that my 2006 came with the longer Sachs 904 320 series strut when the information which I have found specifies a Sachs 901 320 strut for the 2500HC model Sprinter. The basic 9 1/2" shaft length and 7.2" stroke apples to all T1N struts that I have found.
