I'm building a van and have been having some issues with the electrical system.
I'm converting a 2006 2500 170 passenger Dodge sprinter. It had an auxiliary battery already wired in from the factory (100 ah amg). It was dead so I decided to replace it with 2 amg 6v 220 ah batteries wired in series in the van and wired them into the alternator charger wire. I used the kit from AM solar so there is a victron battery monitor and a good ground wire setup.
The vehicle started after that and I drove it around that day. The next morning the starter battery (100 ah) was dead. I bought a new battery and replaced it. The vehicle started up then drove around for a day but then was dead the next morning. I put it on a trickle charger for 24 hrs. The battery says it's charged but the vehicle won't start. The lights on the dashboard won't even come on now. Initially I got a little flicker of dash lights that came on for the mileage display that would come on, die, and then repeat till it wouldn't come on again. Then no lights have come on since and supposedly the battery is fully charged according to the voltmeter.
Any ideas what could cause this problem? Is the isolator/ diode that came with the van too weak to handle 220 ah? Should I try to get another type of separator? is the difference in battery types (AGM vs lead acid starter) to different?
Thanks for any suggestions.
