Increasing wheel size

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade my stock 15” wheels to 16” wheels as I’m currently bottoming out my mud flaps on speed bumps. Also, I’d like to fit some BFG AT K02’s under it in the realm of 245/75/16 or 265/75/16’s. I’m currently installing the Vancompass 2 inch lift kit and new front struts and rear shocks to help give the van a bit of lift. I live in the country so it would be good to have some all terrain tyres on. My question is: where can I purchase after market 16” steel wheels in australia? Coffs Harbour is the closest city to me and I’ve exhausted all options there. Looking forward to hearing any recommendations you have!

Cheers

Are we talking 2wd or 4wd is it single or dual and it must be a T1N. I have some 16 inch wheels in stock, they are Fiat ducato and need machining to fit a T1N. Eric.

As mentioned, the fiat wheels are your best option. Not expensive, and with a center bore our are bolt on.

245/75r16 will fit with light modification to the front mudflaps.

Wow, thank you for such a fast response! Yeah it’s a 2WD single T1N. What’s involved in machining the fiat wheels to meet the sprinter specifications? And, what’s the best method to pay you for these Eric?

Are there any photos of how best to trim mudflats to allow for the larger tyres?
Cheers

The center bore hole on the fiat wheels needs machined larger to match the sprinter hubs. The mudflaps are self explanatory. Trim the one edge a bit, and poke a hole through both layers. Then use a zip tie or wire to tie them together. This prevents the wheel from catching them when backing up if some brush or a rock pushes them into the tire.

Are the Fiat wheels steel or alloy? OP stated he wanted steel 16" wheels
I have lifted mine & put alloy 16" wheels on. With 225 wide tyres I wouldnt put wider ones on personally
If you want to check it out I will be in the coffs area for a week or 2 next week. PM me

SP I recently upped the wheel size on my Landcriuiser in SA because the larger wheel size had more tyre options, but the tyre fitted had to meet the spec below, which is not much for a non 4x4.

Its not being pulled up by the police the problem, its in the case of an accident and insurance accessor may pick up the over size tyres and avoid paying up. ( But I think they can only use this "get out" in certain cases eg smaller tyre could have brake sooner and avoided the accident)

Note may be different in your state.

Aug 6, 2018 - The overall diameter of a wheel and tyre fitted to a vehicle must not be more than 50mm (4WDs) or 15 mm (other vehicles) larger than the largest tyre size listed on the tyre placard and not more than 15 mm less than the smallest tyre size listed on the placard on all vehicles.

Did you get camber shims with the kit?
I have a set that I dont need.
I took van to specialist wheel aligner to get the changed geometry right, after the lift. I also got him to torque a few things that I couldnt. Cant remember what off hand.

Hey, no I didn’t, are they necessary?
What is their purpose?

The VC lift kit for the T1N sprinter requires camber shims. Otherwise you will get uneven tire wear due to excessive camber.

Hi... I have a 2005 313. I’ve ordered a 2inch lift kit from Van Compass in USA and expect it in a month or so.
one fitted I want wider tyres and was looking to 255/70/16 (replacing the std 225/70/15 light truck tyres. I’m wanting a bigger footprint and an all terrain tyre. Im curious why you say you wouldn’t go wider. Can you tell me please?
