what is a Turbo Resonator

epssty

2005 2500 sprinter
i have a 2005 2500 sprinter and i need a new Turbo Resonator

I had to cut it off to replace my alternator

the screws where so rusted i could not them off with out removing the radiator

would it be better for an older sprinter to use the Aluminum Turbo Resonator Eliminator Upgrade

i was hoping some of you great sprinter owners would know

Aluminum ($130 or up) or plastic ($32 for the Dorman equivalent) both work.

The Aluminum will never die, the plastic will be quieter for people who still have high-frequency hearing

Here's the Dorman: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002E323DS/ref=ox_ya_os_product

Here's the aluminum: https://www.amazon.com/Turbo-Resona...NFZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416965765&sr=8-1
or https://www.sprinterstore.com/product/single-turbo-resonator-eliminator-for-sprinter-vans/ ($115 black monday special)
Europarts-sd also sells it: http://europarts-sd.com/turboresonatoreliminator-2004-2006.asp

Note that the aluminum replacement does NOT come with the O-ring... from Europarts, that's this:

--dick (i'm cheap: i used the Dorman)

I've seen some people with machine shops selling their custom version of the aluminium turbo resonators.... It seemed legit but I don't know much. Any reason to get an Amazon one versus one from a custom maker like that? Only $70 new which is nice. How much louder are they? I was thinking of upgrading while I'm under there replacing my turbo oil return gaskets.

i think you did the alt wrong.....i didnt remove anything to replace mine, move a couple brackets is all.

I put the aluminum resonator on my 2006 Dodge Sprinter 3500. I'm sure it's there, but I can't tell the nose difference.

What does it do?
It dampens out the very high frequency 'whistling' noise that your turbocharger
makes because it rotates a something like > 15,000 RPM (anyone know the right
RPM number for a Garrett VNT (Variable Nozzle Technology) turbocharger)?
You will hear the turbo whistle/whine on the big diesel pickup trucks and

particularly on the Euro engines deluxe busses with the Jacobs Exhaust brake.

Some said it help with vibation

It does nothing for vibration, just dampens out high frequency sound with a

whole bunch of internal baffles.

My (years old) memory says they're longer than 16mm on a T1N
(think "thickness of the resonator arm, plus long enough to help drag it into position")
I'd say at least an inch, if not an inch and a half (i.e. 25mm to 36mm or 40mm)
