Tire Size - 2006 TN1 - Will 235 75 R16's fit?

I'm running 245/75x16 Cooper Discovery STT Pros on my T1N 4x4 with the factory 3 inch lift. I've had to introduce the front bumper and wheel arch to Mr Angle Grinder to allow clearance on the bottom edges. That said, a different brand of tyre might have different issues as well as the offset of the wheels.

Summarizing info from the various Forum threads:

1. Several model American Sprinters (140" and 158" wheelbases, single rear wheels) were factory lifted to fit standard 16" wheels--thus the differences with European and other Sprinters with standard 15" wheels. This may not be true of all model years (early Freightliners may have had 15" wheels?).

The standard 16" tire size is 225/75/16.

This may also be true for the American dual rear wheel models--a lift even with standard 15" wheels. Need to confirm.

2. The American 118" wheelbase had no lift and a standard 15" wheel. Don't know if this were true for all model years.

3. The American standard 16" steel wheel is 6" wide. Some larger tires (e.g., 245/75/16) require a 6.5" wide wheel. The American optional alloy wheels are 16" x 6.5".

Again, this may not be true of all model years. Earlier model years may.have had 16" x 6" wide alloy wheels while later model years had wider 6.5" alloy wheels.

Folks have used 245/75/16 with no or some mudflap rubbing, etc. 245/75/16s have a 1" or so greater diameter than the standard 225/75/16s which makes the American MPH speedometer more accurate.

The steel wheel and alloy wheel have different offsets. Other wheels may have different offsets.

The combination of different offset wheels and different manufacturer and size tires may lead to differences in clearances.. Same nominal size tires from different manufacturers may differ in actual size.

Just saw your question. I've a 2006 2500HC with stock steel wheels. Uniroyal Laredo Tour 245/75/16 111T (a light truck tire, but I never have it loaded with anything more than a bed, camping gear, and maybe a motorcycle.) No modifications needed, and I am well pleased with the tire.

Old thread, but is the consensus that it is safe to mount a 245/75-16 tire onto a 2004-2006 T1N (140 wheelbase) with the possibility of minor, correctable rubbing?

Hey fit. There's a good YouTube video of a small piece of sheet metal that needs to be either cut or bent out of the way on the front passenger side. It was a non issue with mine since it looked like it was bent back at the factory.

Hey! I know this post is old, but I was wondering, the tires on your Sprinter are 235/75 R16? Have you experienced any fish tailing?

Reduce the air pressure in your rear tires. The number on the door sill is for maximum loading and will cause unpleasant handling and ride in an empty or lightly loaded van. I run 55 PSI all around on 245/75 R16’s

I've never seen the mirrors on the van in that video before. Looks interesting like it might have a larger blind spot mirror field of view. Anybody know the details of this setup..looks like the stock frame offering or is it a one off?

Yea, based on everything ive seen/read, it should be ok.

Good vid here:

Planning on going this route myself in the next month or so (on my 2004 Freightliner 2500 140").

Looks like they where already on it when he bought it...

6:47 shows passenger side and 7:24 drivers side.

The main mirrors are the standard MB mirrors inverted.

Keith.

PS Going on the yellow colour inside the van it could well have been a DHL spec... https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cu...fed-ex-w700-hybrid-vs-2006-ups-sprinter-p57d/

Thanks Cheyenne,

I noticed the cool yellow in the door jamb during the first video but it didn't ring a bell for me....good catch.

Those DHL mirrors are pretty fugly looking IMO, but I bet they do provide better field of views over the regular ones. I wish I had a decent Sprinter junk yard around-I'd be interested in checking those out.

Robert,

I was just looking at the 2008 parts book on DIY Sprinter and it shows mirror options including specific specials for UPS which look very similar to those pictured.

Check them out in section 30-510.

Keith.
