Who has a better camp site than me?

2024 standard roof AWD crew van
Van peeking out at the beginning of video. They did a multi year refurbishment of the campground and moved the riverside sites a little further away from the river. Now a 40 second walk instead of 20. We had the spot for two weeks. Nice to relax in the river after a long, hot hike.

For clarification of my post, like many federal forest campgrounds, it is first come, first serve if you’re a walk-in (like me) and, in the case of Laguna, it is first come, first serve if you want to book within four days of your stay. You can certainly reserve over four days out. There's no staffed check in gate. There is just a camp host and a cash/check drop box for walk-ins.

T'was a few weeks ago now, but helped my daughter move from Las Vegas to San Antonio. Turned the camper van into a short-term moving van after seeing the prices of one-way rentals. Had much loftier goals for the return trip, but timing didn't work out. Had to rush back, but did manage an over night stop at San Angelo state park in Texas before forging on to Albuquerque, Flagstaff and Las Vegas.
It wasn't a horrible place. Next to a reservoir, lovely sunset, decent mountain biking, and surprisingly few bugs. It was also almost completely empty of guests which was both nice and a little uncomfortable when the plain white van drove through at 3AM.

I enjoyed the 80 MPH speed limits in Texas, but they really skewed my overall MPG.
Not much of the southwest of Texas was worth returning for, but San Antonio seems like a nice area. I'll have to explore more, but will certainly fly out next time. With diesel fuel at about $5/gallon, it wasn't exactly a cheap trip.
Beware if you drive from Roswell to Albuquerque - they don't announce the fact that you're about 1000 miles to the next gas station. At least it felt that way. Maybe I have an exhaust leak into the cab?

We had snow one year at Big Bear on Memorial Day weekend. They don't get the snow cleared from Tioga Road in Yosemite till June normally. I think that year it was July. Yes, California does have winter, some places.

Funny, I always "forget" about BB. Close enough to head up for a few cocktails and a night; back way up 38 is always fun.
But then, 20 minutes up the road and i can "camp" in the "mountains" of The OC. Doesn't really count tho...

Looking through all this was a great break (and good stoke) from building/installing some new cabinetry in Vanzer. Thanks to all for sharing the shots!
