All,
Has anyone found a hitch for the 118' wheelbase that does not require removal and remounting of the spare? Any help appreciated.

Loren:

I've never seen or heard of one that didn't require the removal of the spare. If you compare the rear overhang of the 118 and the 140, you can see why there's no room for a hitch and a spare. Maybe that's why there's no 16" wheel option on the 118? :idunno:

My hitch...

...comes real close to the spare tire mount underneath the vehicle. If you want, I can take some measurements of my hitch to get a reference. I'm sure the mounting holes are there for a hitch, however, mounting my hitch will probably stick out too much out of the rear.

Do you know what brand it is or is it custom made exclusively for SprinterAccessories?

Thanks,

The box said Somethingorother Towing Acessories on it. I'll take a look in the garage when I get home this morning and see if I still have it (I keep a lotta scrap cardobard around when laying undeneath stuff to wrench on it :D ), and If I do I'll let you know what exactly it is.

Don,
Thanks for the info. Did that involve drilling, or was it bolt-on?

Nope, three big bolts into pre-existing holes on each side, and that's it! There is also one smaller bolt on each side that attatches to the rear step if your van happens to be equipped with one. But mine isn't, so I simply didn't use them.

The box was lettered "Cequent Towing Products". A quick Google search revealed that Cequent is...are you ready for this?...the monopoly that owns Draw-Tite, Reese, and Hidden Hitch! And yet, when you search for a hitch for a Sprinter on any of the aformentioned products websites, all they list is "All 41" Wide Frames, Except 118" Wheelbase & Factory Metal Step Platform".

You figure that one out. :idunno:

Gets used! It's a show pony:laughing: It does get used at a min four times a month for carting long 4 metre lengths of timbers such as bearers and flooring sheet flooring plaster board etc,
The down side is backing up steep drives, keep destroying the Mercedes tin ware as the pics shows, must get around to installation of pump up shocks

As promised....:smilewink:

OK so I've had that hitch about ten years longer than the van! Hey, it works and I have no worries of someone taking a liking to it!!

Only tow from time to time and drive like even more of a whoose when I do. Here I am rescuing a veggie car with a diagnosed dead injection pump:cry: so much for saving money on fuel!

Them driveways down under must be pretty steep! I've never scrapped my hitch and I've got plenty of junk back there!

Show Pony...:smirk: I'd call it a Trailer Queen:smilewink:

HI SCOTT
Ok It's a show pony, but they are very expensive even by Australian Standards It will be in the family for at least seven to ten years,
Drives are or can be very steep as mine is if you view the angle of the above photo on the last shot, The Merc has no problem going up it is just the start point from flat to a straight 45 Degree angle so the dam bar hits the ground.

I must say that is a very impressive hitch you have, as I can see you have nurtured the rust with the greatest of care over the years, sort of matches this Old Truck .

Well you have to admit to the similarity, of the two!
Interesting you have your system in reverse to mine isn't it low looks like the nuts a plow for digging up the tar?
And Hey great to see the dead vegimite on the back, goes to show what a Sprinter can pull Richard
PS Love to see them injectors valves and bore ,just to see how clogged up they were.

Does anyone have a part number for that 118" - compatible hitch from Cequent... I tried to find it from anywhere other than Sprinter Source and was unable to find anything other than the part that says it's not compatable with the 118" WB. Thanks.
