ASR warning light

Hi,
Kinda had strange thing today.
History: We have 2003 Dodge Sprinter SuperHigh Roof, Passenger Model.
BTW: Not done search here yet on ASR.
Anyway, when cranking here at home nothing but normal. Stopped at station to get fuel. When leaving all normal.
Stopped at bank drive thru and killed engine while waiting. When cranked up the ASR light stayed on (Symbol that looks like a wheel). Before exiting the parking lot I shut off van and re-started and light stayed on.
Stopped at Walmart when cranked up to leave lights came on like normal and all went out like normal, ASR did not stay on.
After getting home I re-cranked engine acouple times, normal lights on but all went out like normal after engine started.

This first time had this warning light ever stay on. I had not been spining tires or any lost traction or anything. I didn't notice or be honest would have knowledge:bash: of lost of voltage to system.
Any ideas as cause?

Thanks,
Mike

It could be a lot of things. Do you have a code reader or can you get free access (auto store) to one?

The codes could be stored even without the light being on.

Hi,
Thanks for repling.
No, we don't have a code reader. Since moving from city to out here doubt able locate even shop closer than city.
We are not due any maintance til about Oct. But if this warning light might be a problem could get closer date.
The dealer/shop we bought and had work done is over in El Reno, no biggie, just about 1 hour drive now.
Thanks,
MikeP

BTW: Don't know if it may matter. But we have alittle less than 25,000 miles on it.

Had a very similar situation last week while traveling. ASR malfunction light (spinning tire) came on while driving on the freeway. Also simultaneous malfunction of cruise control --would not engage. Pulled over after a while, re-started, ASR light off, all normal, cruise control worked fine. ***ASR light came back on while driving, with cruise control on, cruise control worked but WHEN SLOWING FOR TRAFFIC AHEAD, CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DISENGAGE WHEN USING BRAKE!*** So if your ASR light comes on again, be careful of the cruise control. I have no idea what caused this, as I haven't been able to get to anyone yet who can diagnose it. But it's bad news when the cruise control doesn't disengage upon using brakes, so I'll get it fixed.

Hi,
Sorry to read your problem.
Not got ours checked yet. Light went off and not been back on. Also, dealership had lost their Sprinter guy and not checked back yet.
Later,
MikeP
