Okay - The dealer turned on the fader. And it works like a champ. Super easy.

Thanks again Hendo for turning me on to those plugs!

After MB charged me $8.55 PER SOCKET, I started searching to find another source. I started with the number that Avanti found which eventually led me to:
the correct sockets for the yellow speaker plug for an audio 15, they are:
AMP - TE CONNECTIVITY 1-968851-1 Contact, MCP2.8 Series, Socket, Crimp, 13 AWG, Tin Plated Contacts, AMP MCP Series Connectors.
There are several variants, including gold plated if you want them (no, the ones I got from MB weren't gold plated).
The magic number is: 1-968851-1 that's the manufacturers number.
They are available from Newark electronics, allied electronics and I think Mouser electronics.
cost? somewhere around a quarter each... shipping on the other hand is $5.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE SOLD BY 1 ITEM EACH, they also come in strips of 100, 3500, and 12000.
These are crimp connectors, I happen to have the crimper for them, but you can use long nose pliers or if you have them, electrical stake-on tool.
hope this helps others.

P.S. I meant to thank Avanti for starting this thread, it helped me get my speakers installed.
Also the sockets that Avanti found will work, they just aren't quite wide enough and can twist in the plug and not quite align properly.

Hi,
Fantastic thread that I've found very helpful so far. Thought I'd point out a small error in the original post...

...
You are popping off six spring clips like this:
View attachment 62137
Mine actually has 7 spring clips, 3 down each side and one in the middle (in the trim piece between the screen and the buttons). Looking at your photo (View attachment 62136), it looks like yours has that spring clip also.

Hi all,
I am looking to add a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to our 2015 Mercedes Sprinter 519 CDI RV and I'd like to use the Audio 15 head unit for the display. I've found several different TPMS that allow you to hook in to a Reversing Camera screen, so I'm hoping this will work for me.

The TPMS I've looked at hook into the Video input for the display, but also use a "Reverse Trigger" wire to activate the TPMS display in the event of a warning (high/low pressure/temp). Can anyone tell me which wire in the loom is the Reverse Trigger wire? I'm guessing it has one to automatically switch on the Reversing Camera display. BTW, our RV has a reversing camera, but it is a complete after-market system with its own screen.

TIA,

Hi,
I just installed an aftermarket backup cam using the green connector on the back of the head unit. Before I used the supplied programmer to tell the sprinter it had a backup cam the sys button would not let me select "camera". The word was present on the screen but I could not select it. After I plugged in the programmer I could select "camera". Not sure this helps but thought I would post it anyway.
This is an old post, but maybe someone can help anyway? Our sprinter has a completely separate after-market reversing camera with its own screen so I'm assuming our OBD system hasn't been programmed to enable the camera.

However, there's no mention of camera at all on my Audio 15 unit. When I press the Sys button, all I get is this: Sys Screen on RY2550 Audio 15 head unit.

It doesn't make any difference how long I hold down the Sys button.

My questions are:
  • Has anyone else seen this?
  • Could it be because my Audio 15 is a newer model (RY2550)
  • Can I expect the "Camera" option to appear if I get the dealer to enable it via the OBD?

TIA,

The Mercedes service center can extend the time the Audio 15 will be on with the key out of the ignition to 2 hours. They had not done that before. I do not know the code they used. They did not charge me anything but the 2016 2500 4x4 Sprinter was in for a warranty replacement of the main computer. Two hours is a big improvement from the 30 minutes on time it came from the factory with. Based on the stock battery size and the service managers comments, draining the battery is not a problem having the radio on for 2 hours. However, I wouldn't do that in extreme cold weather.

On an earlier warranty visit for the same warranty issue, they activated the rear speakers. Thanks to this thread, they are working with the fader!

I've seen a couple of YouTube vids with the Audio 15 displaying song info under the radio tuner bar. Mine doesn't show anything on channels that I know provide the metadata. Is there a way to enable or disable this?

I am looking for the male plug for Audio 15 radio to replace my Sound 5 with Audio 15. I can find the female one, like on the radio itself but not the mating connector which is part of MB harness. Junkyard could be an option but if too difficult I just replace my Sound 5 with an aftermarket unit.

Thank you for help.

George.

So, I got an audio 15 (ry2550 I think) head unit on e-bay, and I cannot figure out how to input the code I got from the dealer. It just goes to "Anti-theft protection active" and does not allow me to do anything else. Please help.

I could be wrong, but my understanding was that there IS no lock code. Rather, I believe that the radio has to be married to your vin using the dealer-level Star diagnostics system.

Avanti, seems you are correct. It has to be programmed to the vehicle, and the stealership is charging $250 to do it. No thanks, I'll get a better head unit for that price.

Ouch. I would call around. Other dealers? Freightliner repair shop? Sprinter-specialist independent? Anyone with a Star Diagnostic system (even a Chinese clone, I believe) could do this in no more than 15 minutes.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a "code" that could tell the radio to accept *any* vehicle.

But you'd still have to find a shop that would set the information into the radio.

Sorry to reopen an old thread but Google brought me here - one of the only threads I can find on retro fitting the Audio 15. . . I bought one from a dealer in Germany (Im in the UK) to replace the factory Audio 10 (I wanted to retain the OEM functionality but also fit an aftermarket reverse camera). My local dealer tried to code the radio but failed after 2 hours of trying. . . My van is a Euro spec MY2015. The dealer said they didn't have the relevant code to apply to my vehicle to make it work. They have updated the VIN correctly I'm told but they reckon that the van needs a CANBUS upgrade to make it work, which seems odd as you could order a MY2015 van with an Audio 15 in - and I doubt they had a different loom installed just to support the radio. . .

Wherever you go, there you are.
The Becker Navigation is Option EV6. It requires Radio 15. The Becker Nav is just a little box--comes separately packaged in the glove box. You open it up and plug it in to the socket that you will find in your glove box if you ordered Radio 15. You can also plug it into a PC (NOT Mac) to get a free update of the maps and software for some period of time (45 days from first use or some such). It plugs into a USB port. This process is fiddly, but I was ultimately able to do it successfully on my Mac using Windows running under Parallels.
In case anyone is looking at this from the year 2018 and is concerned about using the Becker Map Pilot box on a Macintosh, it DOES work on the Macintosh now. The "Content Manager" software is downloaded from Becker and takes care of updating the software and maps on the little BMP box over a USB connection. I updated my software and maps about 10 days after purchasing the vehicle. About 30 days later I received an e-mail notice that a new map had been released. I pulled the BMP box out of the van, connected it back up to my Macintosh, and used the "Content Manager" to get the new map data and update the BMP box. It was pleasant to see that the original 60 day map update guarantee was still valid even though I had updated the maps once already.

On the back up camera I got I thought it was a plug and play but ran into a jam the yellow video does not plug into the green on the radio so there must be a connector you can get? Any help where to get such thing or what do I do? Thanks this was a lot of help good thread.
