EGR cooler cleaning, was pretty easy

My favorite thread!

Back again, and just a couple new notes.

1 - I followed the above OEM instructions to a T and that worked really well - no other steps performed, though I was never able to identify the bracket in step 10 - maybe my van doesn’t have it - so skipped. Yet another lesson in “RTFM” - or suffer. Only thing missing that was likely covered at a higher level is you need to drain off a few quarts of coolant and remove the reservoir.

2 - I kinda dreaded removing the EGR as usual, but it came right out - then I remembered I used Permatex Anti Seize Lubricant - the silver metallic looking stuff - last I had it out. EZPZ - no brainer - can’t believe a $0.0005 isn’t spent at the factory for a simple wipe of this stuff.

Good luck.

I too, tackled the dreaded EGR cooler (or soot collector of death) this past week. Went smoothly minus lining up the gasket on the egr long pipe on the back of the assembly. 4-6 hours was a reasonable time frame to get this done the first time.
