Newport Dunes in Orange County

Before I try to make a reservation.... Has anyone had a problem staying with Newport Dunes in a sprinter? They have a mention on their site regarding a RVIA sticker? I have a very well built, safe, conversion, but I dont have that.

Newport Dunes has an "image" to protect. They only allow commercially built RVs and RVIA badged van conversions. DIY conversions are not welcome no matter how well built.

There are gold and silver versions; I'm not sure of the significance, but some sources say Gold is for motorhomes, Silver for trailers...

I think there have been some examples posted on this forum of RVIA builds that had flat dangerous electrical work and shoddy plumbing and other crap work as well. Like wood screws holding seat belts.

The RVIA intention is probaly legitimate, but the qc inspections are not
Bottom line, a campsite can require what they want I suppose.

Requiring RVIA is sort of like HOA with gatekeeping rules; its about keeping people who aren't adequately snobby out of the place.

As far as I'm concerned, if I was going camping, I'd be searching for sites that don't require one. I wouldn't want the type you find in the ones that do as neighbours for even a night.

Camping for me has never been about anything but the singular experience we receive for our efforts.

Camping among the hordes has been the reason I never have been a participant.


Scorpion Bay in the 70's to early 80's was an exception. You had to bring everything with you, water included.

Some local ladies would set up a temporary food stand on the bluff for the weekends that was a cultural gift as much as having someone else feeding us for a change from our usual camping standards with tasty local fare.

I digress. No apologies on this beautiful Sunday morning.

RVIA stickers

I got the gold one. They sent me someone else's serial number, but it was all sorted and delivered within a week of ordering.
Installed on the driver's door jamb above the MB 70PSI tire sticker.
