Tire options?

We ditched the OEM Agillis and steel wheels last month and it’s top 5 for favorite van mods. Better highway handling, better dirt handling, better ride, better traction, better.. better.. better.

We went with 265/70R17 Falken Wildpeak AT4’s on 17x8 ET38 wheels.

Wondering how much difference one would feel with the stock steel wheels and a 14mm (or so) spacer. I’m sure it’s a combo of both track width and different tires, but I’m curious if anyone here has experience with running spacers on stock wheels and if it made enough of a difference to be worth it.

I have a set of dedicated winter tires on the steelies, so I’m curious if they would benefit from spacers.

Only have 500 miles on them but mileage doesn’t seem to have taken much, if any, of a hit base on the usage we have done so far.

We’ll see how they do on noise as they age, but the wife has 30K miles on her AT3’s and they don’t seem to be any noisier… they are on a Jeep JT though.

I was tempted to go with Goodyear Duratrac RT-LT’s but think the AT4’s are geared a little more towards our use.

I could do 99% highway and I would still have ditched those tires, absolutely hate them. Crap traction, crap ride, and only marginally better mileage than my AT’s. I really had nothing positive to say about them and now that I know how the van drives with something different I have zero positive to say about them.

Luckily there seems to be an almost cult following of them so I shouldn’t have a problem selling them :) Just waiting to get the spare swapped out and they will get listed. Hopefully I’ll find a good used 265/75R16 but pickings are slim right now and I’ll likely just throw a new tire under
The key thing I want is durability.

Yes I’m also sure track width is part of the benefits.

I’m keeping the steelies for now incase I want some dedicated snow tires. I think the 3PMSF AT4’s will be fine but I haven’t used the awd system in winter yet to know. It cheaper to keep them than it is to sell them and buy more. Anyhow, I’d run 16mm spacers for track width and tire chain clearance if I decided to use them. Thinking about 235/85R16.

From what? I feel like they aren’t nearly as durable as the AT4’s for road hazard and sidewall protection. HT’s are seldom as durable as AT’s.

I've had one road hazard blowout in my life. I'm simply talking about number of miles before I need to replace them. I don't really drive off road. I don't need 3 peak rated tires, I don't drive in severe snow, I don't go up mountains while there is snow on the ground, and a bunch of other "I don't"s on top of it.

The thing with tires is that they are tools. There isn't One Tool To Rule Them All. There are different tools for different jobs. I just need a road tire for New Jersey weather. I think the farthest away from home I've been with this thing is Carlisle, PA. I've stayed out overnight just once in the thing, in Carlisle, at a bed and breakfast. My tool needs are just inherently different.

If you are going off road or such like that, sidewall intrusion issues are a part of durability in a tire. If you are driving in my world, a sidewall intrusion issues means I done fucked up and drove into a wall or curb or something like that.

Yeah the Agilis has potential for longevity, thou it only gets a 8.1 treadwear rating on tirerack vs the Falken Wildpeak AT4 getting a 9.0 (and has a 60K mile warranty).

Bought a 2023 GH1 4x4 has KO2’s. Pretty loud road noise on the road at highway speed. KO3’s any better of is that just paid advertising for social media selling point. Or any other good tire options? 80% road 20% off-road easy fire roads..
We have a similar use case (80% road & 20% easy dirt roads). We replaced a set of Wildpeak AT3's with KO3's while on our Colorado trip last month. The Wildpeaks were on the van with ~32K miles when we bought it used a year ago and based on the like new condition of the spare, I'd guess that the tires were not rotated often. We had a failure at the start of the trip and ended up scheduling installation of a new set when we were near a Discount Tire in Glenwood Springs. After a bunch of reading and watching YT videos I was on the fence about getting a set of the Wildpeak AT4's or the KO3's, DT had the KO3's in stock and my decision was made for me.

All of that said, the KO3's are very quiet at highway speed, a night and day difference from the well worn AT3's. We've put ~1,000 miles on the tires and so far I'm quite happy with the KO3's. Initially I did notice a bit more compliance/squirm as someone else posted, but I don't notice it now. I plan to do a regular 5 tire rotation going forward
