Havelock Wool downgrading their insulation...

I just got a sad email from Havelock. Apparently they are downgrading their insulation and adulterating it with 10% bi-component polyester.

You have until April 15th to order the superior, 100% wool insulation before this once excellent product is ruined.

Predictably, they are hailing this as an 'upgrade.' That's how everyone does it. :nonono:

It's like Merino Wool socks, but adding Polyester instead of Nylon. Aside from a few huge fans of natural fibers like you, most will accept it and maybe even pay more van tax for the "pro" version. It's good marketing. The announcement is just dripping with marketing fluff.

The 10% polyester is probably just a binder to help hold the batts together better during install - I've seen this with other wool insulation products. Still annoying when they call it an "upgrade" though, classic marketing BS.

How many 100% wool suits do you own?
I own 3 suits; all are 100% wool. I also own a decent selection of dress pants, all of which are also 100% wool. And a selction of sweaters, which are 100% wool. And several drawers full of socks, all of which are, in fact, 100% wool. I am wearing a pair of loose leggings, which are also 100% wool; I own half a dozen pairs of them. I'm wearing slippers, which are 100% wool. I'm wearing a telnyashka, which is 50% wool and 50% cotton, as per striping. The blanket I sleep under is 100% wool. The pullman blanket in my van is 100% wool.

If a suit isn't 100% wool, I ain't buying it.

I retired off of a wool importing business, stary mintaj.

I know Havelock batts are different than, for example, socks, but generally the difference between a quality 100% wool sock and one that is using a binder (which is just basically a synthetic net that shorter-hair fibres are woven into) is one is good, and the other is garbage. Quality 100% wool socks use long-hair wool fibres. They wear like iron. Short hair socks don't even last the season in many cases.

One of the things I liked about Havelock was that the batts were easy to pull apart, and thus you could stuff it into small spaces very easily.

You do know, that wool uniforms is what slow down Hitler's army in hot weather?

I'm with you on the wool suits. I have three 100% wool suits, two are fancy Italian wool fabrics, suits made in the USA (look for the union label). I wear them all four seasons, including summer here in Phoenix. They are quite comfortable and can be worn all day.

I don't know about how the 10% poly will affect the Havalock batts. Although not your favorite, Thinsulate is a good choice also.

You apparently haven’t worn wool in the summer.
Never did. I have very sensitive neck skin and even turtle neck shirts do bother me.
Never used scarfs for the same reason, no matter how soft they were.
I think I was forced to wear wool pants at the age of 8 and it is not pleasant memory.
