Looking for a little advice for my Fall upgrade work plans... (Paint, cloth covering, window shade relocation)

Green Maned Lion

Der Unverbesserliche.
I have a few small projects for the fall; I am putting off the cabinet rebuild until at least Spring because exactly what I need to store where is up in the air at the moment, and these things are more pressing:

1) Paint: There is some paint missing from one section of exposed metal, and the window cuts were done by an orangoutang and have bare, exposed metal, and the rubber fairing 'installed' doesn't fit. I'm going to start on the rear drivers side window and take that to completion because I don't need to remove anything to do it, but basically I need to sand the metal edging a bit, maybe, and then put paint over it as a sealent. Do I need a primer for this? Is Testor's modeling paint good enough for rust prevention? Rust prevention is my primary concern, although it is not currently rusting. I will be covering this with fabric.

2) The biggest non-window heat sources in my cabin are the exposed metal, obviously, around the window frame area. My intention, after the paint work, is to cover this exposed metal using strips cut out of a wool blanket I bought for the purpose, so each window will get four strips. I want this to be removable incase I ever replace the windows in the future (distinct possibility), so I was thinking 3M90. Is that the right adhesive for this instance? Insulation and cosmetics are the goals.

3) Once the wool is in place, I intend to use a U-shaped rubber strip to further cover the wool and the window, but I want a wider strip than the one provided by the orangoutangs, because I can't actually re-attach the parts of the original that have been falling out. Any suggestions for a particular product, or a different approach? Like maybe a fabric strip like you'd find in older Mercedes sedans?

4) I currently store my window shades either magnetically on the top or bottom of the windows, or in space in one of my cabinets. I want to vacate that space and save me the trouble of sliding the bloody things in and out, and I also can tell that while the magnets will attach a deployed window covering through the wool fabric, I do not think it will be able to hold a folded one in place in a moving van as I am doing now. My vision at the moment is to place metal strips over each window in the headliner, above the sliding door, above the rear doors, and at some other place for the front window shades (I am still at a loss for the windsheild shade- I am not interested in an above cab shelf because I am too stiff to contort into the seat with one). My main thing, though, is I don't want to actually remove the factory headliner, preferably ever again, and was thinking I could install these metal strips using self-tappers into the factory headliner. Is the headliner strong enough for that? I do use that for holding up a plastic fan shroud.

5) If I manage to do all of this adequately, my next project will be insulating the front doors and cab headliner. I suspect that might be pushed to the Spring, though, although it may be possible to do this in the later fall/early-winter.

Thanks in advance for any help!
