I’m getting codes 2514-1 and 2514-4, freeze data shows it’s occurring at the same time. Crankcase vent heater short to positive and open circuit.

Does this suggest it’s time to replace the crankcase vent heater or should I be looking elsewhere? She runs fine, only complaint is seems sluggish in hot weather after idling in traffic or sitting at traffic light and take off again.

I’m considering opening up the oil separator and cleaning the media.

If the heater coil shorts internally, it will show as a short to positive, basically high current on the control wire. It could be intermittent, so as the short heats up, it goes open circuit, cools, and shorts again. Typically means the heater is bad. You can ohm it out to check. I don't recall offhand what it should be around 5 ohms I think?

I haven't ever seen the oil separator clogged except on engines that had oil gunk buildup due to insufficient oil changes, or substandard oil. So if the underside of your oil cap is free of gunk (just the normal brown varnish) then you probably are fine.
