///// how to remove glass from rear view mirror /////

Hi

The mirror glass on my flat mirror passenger side is messed up.

How do I go about taking out the glass ? I think I might pick up truck
I simply take a screwdriver behind the glass and pry out words and the glass and the area where it's mounted to pops out of a ball and socket type situation

I didn't want to go prying on this without knowing what I'm dealing with for fear of breaking it up even more.

So how does one go about removing the glass or the piece holding the glass into the mirror housing assembly?

Thanks in advance for any and all help

I think the process is to push in at the bottom until the top is close to the edge. Then slide up to unhook the holder clips.

I do it very slightly differently...

Push the top fully in so the bottom edge sticks out. Press up a short distance to release the locking tab.
Now push the bottom fully in then slide the mirror glass up and out, but don't forget to disconnect any heater wires!

I like your idea better. I now remember using some paint stir sticks. Push the bottom out like you say and put in a couple stir sticks. as I push the bottom in, it pushes up on the glass more than I could manually. Helped get the old one off.

Mine popped loose when clipped other mirror.. The glass is glued to a plastic holder and mounted on a motorized gimbal as explained; thus the only way it will come out is gentlly apply enough force on one side to overcome the grip of the plastic tabs onn the holder.

The advantage of the service manual's approach (tilt top towards the rear of the vehicle) is that if you *break* the retaining tab on the top, the new mirror will not fall to the ground after the replacement.

Old cold plastic (this is winter, after all) doesn't like being bent.

tale: my Sprinter was delivered new to the dealer with the top parabolics not yet mounted.
Part of the dealer prep is/was installing them (they were in the cab).
During the installation, the dealer's service tech broke one of the upper side retainers of the passenger side flat mirror.
I only discovered that when it fell (partially) out once after a too-hard door slam.
(more than a year after delivery)
