Hi guys.

I find it very frustating to find a thread where the end results is not published. Last year i got some help in here of upgrading from halogen to LED.

I asked my local MB and they asked about 7000 euro. for it to be original. So i decided to do it myself. Its very good light and also put on a lightbar afterwards. Im so happy for it. and enjoys it everyday. If you have any question you are welcome to ask.

i opened the headlights and drilled up the old H7 bulb hole. And put in these LED Projecters.

i will attach some photos of the project.

Looking very nice!
Could you share the source of those projectors? What about road legality of those?
Thanks!

Hi Stan. Thanks alot. If you look up this link. And find your model. There is some projecters. It’s not a 100% Road legal fit. Because where I’m from (denmark) you need to have headlight washers and level adjustment. Which I don’t. But it looks very OEM and the light level is OK in these light box checkers they use at the check. Side wise and up and down. But I also made the wiring after the oem plug so that if i have this problem i can easily change back to original. At the check. But so far no problems. And I love it every day/niggt 😀

finally! someone who has done this job and will actually speak about it. I've been interested in doing this for a long time now, using the kit from retrofit lab.

I have already upgraded my headlights in my e39 bmw 530d using a retrofit lab kit, but that was easy as the lenses weren't perma sealed and they already had halogen projectors, so it was a very simple swap out job.

Can i ask how hard it was to remove the lenses? what was your technique? is there any screws fixing the lens on or just sealant?

How are you mounting the projector? using 4 studs behind? if so what are you bolting it to?

As for the LED 'DRL' strip? where did you get this? is it just glued in place?

any extra photos or videos you have would be amazing!

Thanks,
Christian

Hi Christian.
Sounds good. I think if you have done this upgrade on the BMW, you should be fine with doing this on the sprinter. It was a bit of a challenge to get them off really but you just need to be patient and careful.

the sprinter headlights are too big to go into any oven. But I used a big cardboard box outdoors. Where I made a hole in for a heat gun. But I put metal pipe to protect the cardboard from getting caught on fire. Like for example an old vacuum cleaner pipe. Then full heat on low fan for maybe 15 minutes. But it’s very important to keep an eye on it because you can melt the lens or make the back of the lens the black plastic soft and it will take a new shape.
When you hit the right amount and time. It’s pretty much just pull it off. Don’t use violence or anything related. When it’s ready to go it can be seperated pretty easy. But If it’s still very tacky then it needs more time.

if I should do it again now I will order some new lenses only. You know the transparent plastic / “glass” because they will have some wear and tear of years on the road.

I used some black glue. And a lot to seal it again it’s also need heating after you put it on. But not so much. I’m not 100p sure but I think it was made for windshields since it’s very strong and waterproof. Because it’s essential for the headlights not to fog.

about the projecter. The set is made with a big nut and washer on the behind. But you need to dremel the original h7 hole up just a tiny bit. It’s pretty straight forward but you just need to make sure the projecter is horisontal. Make sure to glue all nuts. And join all wires very good. Because once it assembled it’s very hard to change anything. I did alot of trips back and forward before gluing. The lens back and for testing all. Because once it’s glued back on you can’t really do much.

About the led drl. I ordered online 12v. With indicator lights. It was brilliant but unfortunately after some time the tape on the back gave up some places. So would definitely put on some extra glue another time.

I had a bit of headache with getting the missing bulb lamp to turn off. Even with the resistors that comes with the retrofit kit. It still didn’t work but i put on another resistance that equals to the original H7 bulb in watt. But it got extremely hot. But i managed to extend the wires and put it discreet under the light in the engine bay.

it took multiple days of measuring and researching. But I don’t regret anything the lights was unreal in the nights

That’s brilliant, thanks for the information!

its good to hear they aren’t perma sealed and can be opened up relatively easily. Now I just need to order the parts

Thank you for posting this! I ordered the set a few months ago and am working through the project right now.

To heat the headlights it took each one about 25-30 minutes in the cardboard box for me, though I probably could've left it a bit longer.

Mine also had five staples in each unit that I had to pull out first.

Do you remember how you connected these wires to the new projector?

Thanks again for sharing this upgrade!

As an update, I've been running these projectors for a couple months now, and what I don't like is there is not a dark space for about 2-3 feet right in front of the van. It's not enough light for comfortably navigating turns on dark streets, such as at stop signs.
