Costco Tires Shops

So I took my van into Costco here in Bend Oregon to get my tires rotated and was told an interesting story by the tire tech. Our current Costco is due to close and relocate to a new location in town in October. The existing Costco has 4 tire bays, one of which is Sprinter size, The new location has 6 tire bays, but none of them are large enough to take a high roof Sprinter size vehicle. I was told that if I get new tires from them at the existing facility they will not be able to rotate etc. at the new location. The tech gave the opinion that Costco probably doesn’t really care for Sprinter vans as they are a hassle and would rather work on Subarus!
The story I think I’m trying to tell is beware of getting tires at Costco if you need them serviced, especially at newer stores.

I've posted about this subject a few times.

It varies a lot per location. In general, they don't want to work on them.

I guess that we are fortunate to have more than one commercial vehicle tire shop within 10 minutes of home. One even has a policy that labor is free if a walk-in commercial vehicle customer has to wait more than 30 minutes from the time they sign in, because their whole business is about getting drivers back to work. Their bays, lifts, and alignment racks can all handle big rigs, box/dump trucks, and RVs.....

Americas Tire/Discount Tire is what we use for all our vehicles.

Service is excellent. (But with the Sprinter, I watch them like a hawk.)

Rotations are free each year.
I have the Summer tires rotated inflation checked and installed in the Spring.
I have the Winter tires rotated inflation checked in the Fall.
All for free.

We considered Costco, but there simply are not enough of them around the U.S.

I found their prices aren't that competitive.
Even my Lexus dealer offered much better deal last round, and discount tires came very close to Lexus dealer price and I went with discount tires as you mentioned, there are more discount tire shops than Lexus dealers.

Eh, they can still do the work. Just not on their lifts.
I get my tires at your usual Discount Tire type place.
My van is a high roof with an AC unit. It won't fit in their shop. They just pull it up to the door and use floor jacks.
Easy as.

If you get a good value there, keep using them. If they turn you away, go somewhere else. Plenty of options.

Some shops are not permitted to perform any sort of repair outdoors by local zoning regulations. One of my racing buddies used to have a zoning officer show up in minutes if he even opened the hood on his own car in his shop's driveway.

Our town here has an enforced restriction that a repair shop cannot have more than five cars outside on their property overnight, and wouldn't grant a variance to a shop that had six of their own service/tow vehicles parked outside.....

Wherever you go, there you are.

The last time my van needed new tires Costco had a good price on Michelin Agilis Cross Climate tires. I bought the tires at Costco, then drove them over to a commercial Sprinter van facility to have them mounted and balanced (plenty of room in the back of the van). The Costco tire price was good, the commercial Sprinter van facility had the right skills and equipment for the work. All in all I would do it again (assuming the cost remains competitive).

It’s funny that no one talks about getting tires at Wally World… I looked at their website, and haven’t heard of a lot of the tires they’re selling…. I’m sure they are great though…. I’m sure the tire installers are as good as Costco…. They actually do have BFG KO2’s, some Continental , Cooper and Goodyears…. (If anything here is sarcastic… oops)

In my area, CA, a lot of tire shops will not work on oversized tires by any means, surprisingly MB dealer will do the work at reasonable price and they have all equipment.

I purchased tires via agile offroad, so no free rotation etc.

same situation with ford, anything bigger then stock either shops specialized on vans or dealers

costco in my area good for diapers and tequila, however line for tires insane and price +- with other shops

I have good exp with pep boys on other cars tho (not oversized tires)

I received emails from two local MB dealerships a few days ago, advertising Sprinter tire specials. Didn't look into their pricing, but they claimed to carry multiple brands and were offering what amounts to a $50/tire discount. It may be worth shopping them.....

Sam’s is the same way. I can remove tire and take it in for service but who wants to do that on a road trip. They will not deviate from what’s on the sticker or in their computer.

Last time I got tires at Sam’s for my car, name brand but made in china. I looked at Walmart afterwards and they had a no name made in USA tire for half price. I would rather have the Walmart tire.
