filling the lp tank in my interstate.

I went to fill my interstate lp tank today for the first time. The guy wouldn't fill it because it didn't have a visible gauge. The purge valve says to fill until propane comes out. Is it the propane guy or is the van missing a gauge? How do I get it filled? for reference it has a purge valve, fill port, on/ off switch, and a connector for a grill.

It's not missing a gauge. I don't know where you went but go to a real propane distributor, not a gas station or U-Haul. You'll probably have to wait till Monday.

Go somewhere else. We have a gage but it's inboard and short of crawling underneath, you'd never know if was there. In 7 plus years, no one has asked to see the gage.

training requirements for pumping propane are so lax in different states that you get a lot of idiots. one guy told me he wouldn't fill my tank because it was too rusty. i sanded it down, did rust preventative treatment on it. mixed white and black Rustoleum enamel to get the exact shade of gray Manchester tanks use, carefully repainted it using a brush, let it dry, sprayed it with a hose, threw dirt at it, and let the dirt dry to make it less obvious it had been repainted. never had a problem since.

Thank you! Definitely did not get a feeling of competence from him when I opened the filling door. He just stared at it and wanted nothing to do with it.

I always had the tank on my 2013 Interstate filled at local propane supplier. Never had any issues over 10 years. The technician filled it until propane came out of purge valve.

Traded the 2013 for a 2024 Interstate with Volta battery - no propane.
