Be careful of what you want to catch.
I sat at a coffee shop across from a funeral home last summer.
All the cars in the parking lot you'd consider hot, modern. Bright colors.
The folks standing round. All the guys had the squared off beards. Big boots and belt buckles. The ladies were that type that think nightclub attire is proper for a funeral. Short, tight dresses, pointy high heels, teased big hair and they're all overweight.
Seeing the group of a dozen cars, men, women all alike just seemed so unique.

Oooooh...
A car picture thread...

Do i need to post all my cars?

My favorite?

My first?

My prettiest?

Lets start there...

My prettiest.

And it has a story!

So, back in 2010, i started taking care of a lady's house.
Her ac wasn't working, so i replaced it.
While working on it, she showed me her upstairs garage, and in there sits a mint condition 1987 560SL removable hard top convertible. I mentioned my affection for all classic cars, the mercedes variety in particular...

The lady was in her early 60s, and wanted someone to get it warmed up in the spring, tune it for her, provide oil changes and various upkeep, and i did.

Over the years i installed a generac home backup, another full hvac system in hwr downstairs floor, helped her pick out a widescreen tv, and set it up. Introduced her to the man she eventually married.
Well fast forward a decade plus, and she wants to move north to live with her sister and mother before she passes away, as time is getting close in her late 90s.
She was getting tired of the quirks and fiddling needed to drive the old convertible, and asked me to help her find a replacement for it.

We all went shopping and test driving, and eventually she picked out a good car she was happy with.

Anyway, as she is having me packing her artwork, and various furniture items, she brings me a cool oriental box sealed with a ivory spike, and says thank you for all the help over the years.

Inside were all the factory keys, and the title for the car signed and notorized over to me.

To say i was dumbfounded is an understatement.

I nigh showroom condition 1987 560SL that I KNEW EVERYTHING THAT HAD BEEN DONE TO THE CAR THE LAST 15 YEARS...

Because i did it.

I have a soft spot for the first car i bought with my own money.

A 1972 Toyota Celica ST she was silver with blue bumblebee stripes.
5 speed manual gearbox... 107hp inline 4.

I paid $50 for it and picked it up with my dads trailer because it didnt run.

I tore apart the motor, discovered the balance shaft/distrutor gear has gotten shredded, so went to a junkyard, pulled parts out of a wreck, and has it running for $2
Of course, i cut corners, didnt drop the pan to open the timing cover, gooped it in silicone ultra blue, and dealt with the oil leaks.

The car RAN... and ran well.
I was so proud of my 16 year old self.

Of course, the trunk seal had failed many years prior, and the resulting flood from SC weather has destroyed the floor of the trunk, which in toyota's infinite wisdom was also the top of the fuel tank...

So... what did I do? Well nothing of course.
Put some cardboard over the holes, and drove on!

Did i mention the rust ALSO ruined the fuel level sender? Yup...

So, im driving to work each day at an auto repair and alignment shop, and each morning i would stop at the gas station, pick up a quart of motor oil, and open the trunk, stick a ruler in the fuel tank to see how much gas was in there, and went on about my life.

Yes, i would add oilEVERY DAY, and check the gas level.

A brilliant scollar i was back in the 80's.
