What did you do NOT to your Sprinter today?

Insulated the walls of my trailer with 1-1/2" inch R10 insulation. Had the roof modified to support and fit an air conditioner as well as a dometic brushless vent fan. Next will be fabbing up a platform for the 5000 IDF Cummins generator on the tongue of the trailer. I plan to insulate the entire ceiling with the same R10 insulation as soon as i get the air conditioner and fan installed. All eletrical will be routed above the wall panels and all plumbing will be at floor level.

I plan to have 30 amp service, 110 volt ac power, 12 volt dc power, solar, propane for the stove and hot water heater. The generator can also run on gas or propane so thats a bonus.

The two front wall panels will be used for mounting the eletrical components so that nothing is at floor level other than the 12 volt battery bank.

Its going to be a mobile office with a bed for me and a food prep area for the dogs. As well as a retreat if the weather gets to hot for the dogs in the van. This thing should be an ice box with no windows and R10 insulation wall to wall. I havent decided if i am going to insulate the floor or not at this point.

I'm a little confused, Schlomo. You say you're concerned about lithium batteries due to fire, but are comfortable carrying propane and gasoline?

Very interested in the build, though.

Wherever you go, there you are.
I can't stand wireless stuff. They never work right, they aren't secure, and they add a battery into something that doesn't need one. I wonder about the KVM switch, but I suppose there could be something wrong with it. It could also be that PS/2 converter, though. I run mine (the various) through TinkerBoy converters, which are VIAL enabled, so you can configure all they keys to do whatever, and even setup separate layers.

Dunno if you know this, but I'm a little fond of IBM keyboards.
You are over-generalizing with respect to "wireless stuff". Even just focused on standard computer input devices that are wireless, I use a wireless keyboard and mouse daily, and they work fine. I was not as much of a fan when I had to feed them replaceable batteries, but with ones that charge off of Lightening/USB-C at infrequent intervals, I'm happy. It does matter who the vendor is. In my case, it is the vendor of the main unit (Apple). Crappy vendors have crappy products.

Personally, I think that crappy is a decent description of just about every keyboard Apple made that didn't have Alps switches in them.

Finally got the ceiling all insulated. All of the insulating is finally finished, now i move onto the electrical system. New inverter/breaker/fuse box is here, New Air Conditioner is here, dometic brushless vent fan is here, propane tanks and regulator are here. Still need to pickup water tanks, propane cooktop, water heater, and furnace.

By the way, when i took the trailer in to have the roof beams modified for the A/C and the vent fan i had just put down a brand new fresh coat of killz on the floor to help prevent mold and mildew. When i picked it up that black mess was all over the floor from the welding shop. Seriously, how much effort does it take to put down a damn tarp on the floor ....

Monday it goes back into the shop to have a custom generator box built for the tongue which will also carry the propane tanks.

All the wiring seems pretty basic at this point. The DC 12 volt system will be grounded via the frame of the trailer, the AC system can not be grounded to the frame unless i want to fry all of my DC equipment including the van. Neutral and ground wires attach to the neutral and ground bus bars inside the inverter box and then the AC system is grounded threw the Shore Power/Generator circuit/wires. Only question i still have is "should the ground bus bar inside the inverter be attached and grounded to the ground lug on the front of the generator as well?"20260329_194418.jpg

My friend, it is cheaper to do a bad job of something yourself than to pay someone to do a bad job for you!

In the process of getting ready to list Chez Vreihen to make our escape from New Yorkistan, my DW and I spent the Easter weekend moving my enclosed race car hauler and its precious contents out of our driveway and down yonder to our tree farm where we will be relocating to. Had to rent a pickup with a tow package, since the car hauler is over the Sprinter's towing capacity (even if we had the factory tow package). We got home late yesterday afternoon. It was nippy, with a moderate wind blowing. Since the trailer had been parked in more or less the same spot for 15 years, we left that space in the driveway open so that the grass could grow back around the sides that hadn't seen sun in years. Otherwise, the almost-Mighty Freightliner would have been parked in that now-vacant space.

About half an hour after we returned, we both heard a large CRASH! outside the house by the driveway. Turns out that the moderate wind knocked down a large tree in the woods next to our detached garage. The tree landed on the roof of the garage, punching two holes through the roof. It then rolled forward, and finished its trip to the ground in the driveway in the exact spot where the race car hauler was parked until a few days ago! Thankfully, the Sprinter wasn't parked there and the race car and hauler were 800 miles away.

One of the people in our small neighborhood is a contractor (and bought a gas Sprinter after seeing our diesel). My DW called him this morning to look at the garage roof. He said that because the shingle type/shape used on the garage roof was no longer available, we were looking at a few thousand bucks minimum to re-shingle the entire thing after the holes in the wood were patched. Can you say FML?!?!? My DW has been cleaning out the garage a few weeks ago, and found a package of brand new shingles left over from when the previous owner had the garage roof replaced. They were going to be tossed in her next run to the dump, which didn't happen because we were moving the car hauler. TL;dr - He called his roofing sub. Everything was fixed with a one hour labor bill and some wood, since we provided the replacement shingles.

Needless to say, I'm suddenly not complaining about blowing $500+ bucks in gasoline or getting 10 MPG on the trip down yonder to relocate the car hauler.....

That is pure dumb luck.

We returned the rental pickup with tow package back to Enterprise this morning. Having to endure 1,800 miles sitting in a car-like seat with my legs more or less straight out was a reminder about why I like taking the Sprinter on long road trips and letting my legs dangle while in motion.....

One day, somebody is going to write a book explaining the real reason why automotive design of vehicles not being driven by people engaging in motorsport have become increasingly ergonomically uncomfortable. I bet Kajtek's Ford has a better driving position than a modern pickup truck.

Most well thought car i ever driven was minivan pacifica

I drove one as a renter, I wasn't particularly impressed with it. I thought the seating position too low. Have you ever driven a Metris?
Unfortunately i have not driven metris, however in Pacifica i was impressed with tiny details to passengers, kids at the back and million cupholders an pockets, ports, entertainment etc

Additional mirrors and cameras to see back rows etc etc

*laughs* my favourite cars had no cupholders at all…
