Fuel filler neck to tank coupler dimension? 2-1/8 ...

My tank is leaking from the filler neck to tank connector.
This is the part I'm trying to replace: https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/parts/mopar-hose~5119668aa.html I ordered it and they haven't shipped yet.
My local suppliers are saying it's out of stock nation wide, so I'm suspicious the owners of moparpartsgiant are going to let me know it's out of stock shortly.

Does anyone know the dimension, so I can buy a standard size hose and cut to length?
If no one knows off hand, if I disconnect the fuel filler neck, will my tank dump everything out the opening, or is there a baffle/flap?

Are you certain of that? If it leaks when full it is typically the fuel pump seal.
Drive it till half empty and it would be fine to disconnect the neck. Drive it till almost empty if lowering the tank.

Thanks for the encouragement!

The leak is appearing, and dripping even though the tank has been on empty for the last 150 mi.... I stopped and put 3 gallons in to see if it would still leak and sure it enough it was dripping by the time I got home.

I dropped the tank, spilled some diesel, but managed to get a measurement on the part... The neck flare measures at 2 and 1/4 in and the rubber hose appears to be a 2-in inner diameter.

On the other hand, now that I have everything pulled apart it does not look like the joint was leaking... the leak appears shortly after starting the van and continues as the van runs. When I stop and park, it will leave a spot about 10in across.

Typing this all out has me suspect something on the pressurized side of the fuel lines must be dripping down right above the tank on the filler neck area. I'll take a closer look later tonight.

Good to hear, inspect the lines, sure. What engine, 647 or 612?
612 has no lift pump in the tank, it sucks in the fuel with the engine driven pump, so it limits you to only the return side being somewhat pressurized. 647 has electric in tank pump, power it on with ignition on priming or jumpering the relay and look where it squirts.

Also make sure air breather is not plugged by some mud daubers, I have no idea where it would be, but imagine if pressure from the return line or thermal expansion has nowhere to go and "inflates" the tank. Will make fill up a challenge too as a symptom.

When you take the cap off does there seem to be a "whoosh" of air after the van has been running?

I have a van that would pressurize because of a plugged or defective vent. It started with a leak from the fuel pump gasket on the top of the tank. After replacing that, it pressurized so much that is started leaking at the high pressure pump hoses..

Try setting the filler cap on loosely to see if the leak stops. That's been my solution until I get the time to drop the tank and replace the vent. If you do need to drop the tank, move the vent so you can get back to it later without dropping the tank.... It's the small blue item on a short hose, topside of the tank. Kinda looks like a small lawnmower inline fuel filter.

Following up on the solution!
None of the pressurization theories or return line tracing ended up leading anywhere.

I bought a 2-in piece of filler neck hose off Amazon and cut it to length, replacing the old one... It just barely stretched into place. I probably should have purchased a 2 and 1/8 in one...

No more leak!

I have a very similar problem! Had a leak that was coming from the tank area, thought it was the return line, but it continued after the key was off and discovered my filler tube hose was cracked also found that my vent tube is and has been for a while completely torn in half. Not entirely sure how to replace it because it appears to be connected inside of the frame component that the filler tube runs down. I think I might just put a straight 1/2 or 5/8" nipple on it with a couple clamps and see if it lasts longer.

Should I go ahead and drop the tank (I had to pull the brackets to get the tank to move enough to get the filler hose off) and check the hoses and fuel pump gasket while I'm there? Seems prudent!

Dropping the nearly empty fuel tank on the good dry day is not that hard at all (presuming nuts and bolts not rusted shut on the filler and straps) If you have a friend to help even easier. I did it on my driveway alone to install diesel heater pick up tube in the pump lid and replace the gasket. YouTube has it all.

It was super easy. I drained the tank using the low pressure fuel pump and a piece of extra fuel line... I'd say 2 1/4" filler hose worked really well.
