So many overland goodies in this picture but no diff skid plate or diff cover. Must've been lucky or..
Yeah, a lot of outfitted Sprinters probably don’t get much off-road use. But on the other hand, while I was in the Safeway parking lot in Half Moon Bay, I spotted a lifted Sprinter, larger tires with a tall roof rack, a ladder for access, ten KC lights with covers (I guess you use the ladder and climb on the roof rack to remove the covers), and a winch—ready for some serious off-road adventures.

The highlight was the Handicap license plate, and there was a fairly young guy, who looked very agile jumping into the driver’s seat wearing sandals for effect.

Never know what someone’s handicap may be… his is obviously from being too bad ass tho. Cause he got a sweet rig. lol

Sure, he was injured or whatever at some point. Just like a guy getting out of a lifted truck, running down the boat ramp, and climbing easily onto the trailer to hand winch his waterski boat up onto the trailer—no problem at all.

Meanwhile, my 89-year-old dad has to walk from the regular parking lot. Just because you can game the system doesn’t mean you should.

It’s a matter of simple integrity. If you can jump into your lifted vehicle, walk quickly, and climb all over your gear while playing hard, then you should be able to walk across the parking lot. Gaming the system isn’t something I admire in any way. But, hey, it’s their integrity they’re giving away, while simultaneously taking from those like my neighbor in his wheel chair.

As someone who’s been through years motocross and other injury producing sports, now with artificial joints and could easily qualify for prime parking; I'm not going to get a cheater parking pass, just because I could — I still can run, hike, ride horses, ski, and do all those things, I like many of them do "need" to park in the front.

I wouldn’t be able to have beers with someone that I know who has so blatantly shown their lack of integrity, who games the system like that.

He could be the driver that particular day, or all days. Not the owner.
Or just an entitled ahole narcissist with no integrity that always wants a spacious spot near the front of the store.

I don’t know all the exact details so I ain’t judgin.’

These were issued permanent plates, just like the guy water skiing and many others I see regularly.

He might have been the driver that day, sure. But then again, who’s really using that setup as a handicap vehicle? Nothing on that rig was designed for someone who isn't agile, ever climb those side ladders and transition back to them?

I can barely get my mom and dad into my Sprinter even with a step stool, and hand supporting them. If it had been a Sprinter with a chair lift or even a stock vehicle, I’d be less judgmental. But honestly, I’m the most judgmental person I know—constantly stereotyping people and jumping to conclusions, among my other flaws. So I'll probably just keep jumping to conclusions and keep getting discussed by humanity.

There you go judging…
😉

Honestly though yeah I see giant lifted trucks with all the accessories and rollin’ on 36‘s to 40’s all the time with permanent disability plates and I Judge wonder.
Vehicle could be in the wifes name and well you know…

OR they could just be a douche.

Don’t have to be Johnny Extreme to go off road. Everyone has their comfort zone and types of terrain they choose to “overland” on.
And nobody has to prove anything to anyone here. I mean look at all the kitted up jeeps, tacos, 4x4 trucks, and my favorite.. the accessorized G Wagon, on the 5 and 405 lol. Arnold der Gubernator used to drive his OG Humvee around LA. 🤣

But yeah good idea to have a diff cover or plate even on dirt roads as they’re all subject to change, especially in winter or after a shiton of off roaders have been through tearin’ shid up. I mean seriously it’d be possible to bend the stock diff lip on a truck tire carcass in the road.

In the end as long as your judgement is good and you know your limitations… all good.

Or at a minimum, his ground clearance…

Nail on the head and I like our hierarchy, but forgot us. But there you go, getting me all worked up again.

A small subset of people use their rigs as they’re modified, or at lease try to, but then there’s an entire subculture that tends only to modify for what they believe is status.

If the heavy Armor All on those big tires isn’t the first clue, then a scratch- and dent-free rig is usually a pretty clear sign of someone just posing.

Unfortunately, every group has a large part of this element -

??? Please explain
I was ripping through deep ruts on the Peace Trail in Arizona, and the front of the diff skid caught on what I presume was a large rock, sheered right where the welds were. I sent it back to the manufacturer, and they confirmed that the welds were bad.

Oh gotcha thanks for explaining..

Btw .. it’s very hard to damage the casting if you you ditch the stock cover. Way better than a diff cover.

differential skid plates are like 1990 serious crawlers even ditched them long ago, realizing that they caused more problems and they solve

I would switch to the cast iron cover that’s available, but I’m not a huge fan of the company that makes them.

This is part of the Peace Trail. LolDSC04564.jpeg

Everytime I about to pull the trigger buying the rear step, the BEG rear step shows up and putting "STOP" on my decision.
At the current state of the rear steps in the market, the BEG rear step is on the top of the list as #0.

Looks awesome!
just curious about your thoughts on the rear step?
