See an Interesting House Battery For Your Sprinter?

Can relate
Maybe not yet, but only because I can still ride, run and ski. As soon as that stops, the multi-pint per day habit will catch up quickly.
Oh... and I have a friend up in Lake County CA who welded a gusset to my Ti hardtail MTB where it cracked at the seat tube. Rode that bike another 5,000 miles and recently sold it. The buyer loved the gusset since it fixed a known weak point on those old Lynskey frames.
FYI I still can, and do, it’s just not at the same level. But I’m not a Ti frame guy, A well designed CF frame is so much more efficient.. you can see it in the power meter

Lake County :)

Just came home this was yesterday.. my son..

Wherever you go, there you are.
Looks interesting, but you gotta be 100% team blue. What material is it made from? The site doesn't seem to say.
Smart move on their part... make it easy if you go all in on Victron.

I was on the fence with how to go when I started my van. Victron had lots of street cred. The main obstacle was their insistence that I had to go to a certified reseller to buy/get documentation (beyond what they had on their site). There is now a lot more information available on straightforward Victron component combinations to achieve camper van ends. Making it easy to mount everything is a big plus.

Not a battery yet, but interesting tech that applies to RV use.

Experimental lithium-metal battery delivers 700 Wh/kg and works in extreme cold
Unfortunately, that is one of 1000 early announcements that never winds up in a battery that actually works in an RV. The voltage will be more like NMC cells, not suitable unless all the powered equipment is redesigned. Safety is a big question. So is longevity. Solid state batteries are closer to usability.

Perhaps you are a battery industry insider and are pulling from information not contained in this article, but what you say here is not in there. The article speaks to an electrolyte development project for Lithium based batteries and says nothing regarding voltage changes etc.

I'm not new to R&D and realize only the best aspects of developing tech are reported for obvious reasons. No way to glean from this what the challenges, production feasibility or possible production time frame might be. Lots of opportunity for this tech to not end up working out.

All that said, what are you talking about?

Just my expectations. I've seen this many times.

These articles are mainly to get VCs interested. All the oxygen lately has been sucked up by AI. Yes I'm cynical.

Time will indeed tell.

Interesting. LifeP04 All In One system with mppt.
2.4kwh expandable to 9.4kwh
3.6kw inverter with 7.2kw surge capacity
1600w solar input
BT /App capable
Kind of heavy by AIO standards at 96lbs for the base 2.4kwh unit.
I could’ve missed it, but I did not see any mention of self heating. Perhaps they assume you’ll of course be using an Espar heater to keep temps where they need to be.

It’s very interesting.
Being Eberspacher I shudder to think what that system costs.

Epoch has a new 460ah 12V battery coming out that has a built in, easy access T class fuse.
Model
12V 460Ah V2-T Elite Series - Heated & Bluetooth & Victron Comms LiFePO4 Battery (5.89kWh)

I would not want to be an early adapter of anything from Epoch and wouldn’t buy anything from them after their shoddy software and customer support issues on their 460ah V2 nightmare.

At least until they’ve been solid for 2 or 3 years.
Anyway what a great feature having a T class easily accessible.

I’d love to see that catch on as an industry trend for high capacity batteries, at least as an option.

Server rack batteries are not often used in RV builds, but I’m posting this regarding lower temp charging capability (without heating) may be on the way in LFP batteries soon. It seems not quite yet, but encouraging.

I came close to puling the trigger on that battery for my shed. Instead I got the sister wall mount version that has the same low temp charging specs.

I have it sitting in my garage and haven’t got around to charging and testing it out. I’m not usually someone that opens up batteries but I might with this one just to check it out.

Eco-Worthy also looks to have recently released a single-box 314AH 48v battery that would fit nicely behind a cabinet under a counter. It listed on their website at $2,200. The only other single enclosure 300AH 48v I'm aware of the Lithionics for around 10x that cost.

Here is the Eco-Worthy:

Power Mega 314

Does the integrated BMS work with either a Zeus or Wakespeed alternator regulator?

It is missing the towing tongue.

There are many 48V/314ah on the market now, just look on ebay. Beware all the scammers there, and only buy from the Eco Worthy as the Ebay seller. Today there is a Scammer offering 2 of these for $666.99… no red flags there lol .

Beware some of these are from questionable makers, like everything on ebay/amazon.
Eco Worthy has a good rep. They will likely have UL approval for the gen 2 version.

They all weigh around 300+ lbs.

It looks like Will likes Epoch again. He did a tear down of the Epoch V2-T. Like I’ve mentioned before, IMO I think that Epoch has fixed the issues that it had with the V1 and then some issues with the V2’s. I’ve owned both and the V1’s were a complete disaster and customers got screwed on that deal that kept them. The V2’s had some issues initially but that got squared away after the update and I didn’t have any more issues with them after that. I’ve owned both the Elite V2’s in the 12v and now in the 48v format.

One thing to note is that you can use the V2’s with the newer V2-T’s. I confirmed this with Epoch.

Also, Will mentions in the video around the 6:00 mark that you can change the BMS charging parameters in the GX but you can’t. This is strictly controlled by the BMS and you can’t make changes.

That is a beast of a battery for van footprint wise. Another thing to consider is the vibration as these floor mount batteries are meant to be stationary and not for a mobile application.

The battery has closed loop communication so there should be no problem. However, I wouldn't trust it unless I'm also using a Victron system and have the Zeus or Wakespeed connected via VE.Can too.

Happy to read your Epoch’s are sorted out. 👍🏽
Love the T class fuse being accessible, and UL.
Going to be at least 2 more years of Epoch being epic for me to trust them after their beautiful builds but epic software fails of the past.
I‘m good on 460ah 12V with the 2 Vatrer self heated anyway, but eyeing 48V for the house.
Proly Eco Worthy rack or beast models.

@Will Prowse LOL for the BB cough cough and references. Comical 🤣

The $129 LIFEPO4 (plus $10 for bluetooth) has arrived and I plan to put it to use on Monday.
Can't wait to compare it to Golf Cart batteries I have.
Update is in order.
When I did not use that battery in RV, I used it for my electric motor in inflatable boat, most of the time with 6 people in it.
So taking 3 afternoon boat trips the battery status is 40% and did not recharge it yet in over a year.
Can't complain.
