If you’ve found a new and interesting battery that may work well for house power in your Sprinter conversion please post it up here.
Questionable batteries as well, it may save someone from getting ripped off or buying something just flat hazardous.

By interesting, I mean something uncommon or new tech about it, like:
a) small size for it’s capacity compared to the typical batteries we see.
b) features such as a display, factory 12v outlet, built in hold downs, unique terminals
c) robust charge/discharge rates etc.
d) unique heating system or other control like this particular battery below:

I ran accross this one today, 300ah in a small form factor, with bluetooth, heaters, AND external heater adjustment.

4kw for $1500? Damn. Two of those in an 8kw system would rock for $3k. Four of those in a 16kw 48v system would be amazing.

Although I'm really set for batteries, this is really interesting. I pass through Baton Rouge several times a year. I'll see if I can check them out.

Too bad I didn't know about this sooner. I was through last week, and back through just this morning, although probably not there on a Sunday.

It seems to check all the boxes, although to run a big inverter and AC, you probably need two. They use a 200A BMS.

5.12kwh Server rack batteries are out there in 12,24,48v versions for that price range. Signature Solar, SOK, Li Power for example. But not heated and a larger form. Trophy Battery seems to have a solid rep on Diy Solar Forum and you can actually talk to them, and they’re heated.

The form factor for me. Controlled heating is a plus. Need to see if this will fit in my tray and then go knock off a couple lickasto’s.

Got inconvenient for a couple days of snow and overcast. Tripped a low voltage warning on the inverter with the Keurig one morning. Working on the laptop and continuous draw from the CDH, lights, etc. Wishin I had just one more battery…

Interesting. Those are 2x the volume but 3x the capacity compared to my Renogy 100AH batteries. So 1.5x the energy density which is cool. I thought the Renogy was already pretty aggressive in that regard with its pouch cells. But of course it has been a few years since I researched so I guess things are just getting better.

At some point in the future it will probably be worth it for me to replace my 700AH with new batteries just to optimize space and weight. Probably waiting for 3-4x density though to make it worth it.

It is getting closer and closer to golf cart batteries value (minus the weigh obviously).
I am just researching batteries for my mountain HOUSE.
I can get 4 kW-h in GC batteries for about $600 and last GC batteries lasted me over 10 years.
What's life expectancy of those?

You can already get 300 ah LiFePo4 batteries for $1k from Amazon. Given that they will discharge deeper and last longer than the golf cart batteries, I'd say they are already at the same price point or probably lower when calculating cost over lifetime. However, for cold temperature use the golf cart batteries will still have the edge.

LiFePo4 cells will last 2000-4000 charge/discharge cycles before they should reach 80% capacity. Since they contain electronics (the BMS), there's a chance the electronics will fail before the battery has lost its useful capacity.

Be careful here.... that ad is (intentionally?) misleading.
Elsewhere on the page they say that the battery can deliver 3.5kw continuous
I suspect the 4kw is a (very) short-term pulse

It's a 300 AH battery.

I think they mean 4 kWh as in 13V x 300 ah = ~4 kWh
Not that the mistake is confidence inspiring but I don't think they are trying to mislead.

Going off the normally listed 12.8v x 300a I’d be fine with 3840w, with that form and features. ?

But I certainly get your point, it’s a spec that should be changed to conform with standards, or should be *referenced and explained.

As wattage in series 3.5KW/48v= 72.9 amps.
In parallel, now we're (perhaps) 3.5KW/12v = 291.7 amps.

Agree some of their specs don’t seem to add up, as I mentioned in post 14.
That said,

Maybe I’m confused.

single battery:
12.8v x 300a = 3840w
or using the 13.6v on spec sheet x 300a = 4080w

I'm using the units as printed in the ad.
It's 300 amp-HOURs but they only speak of (instantaneous) WATTS when they say 3.5KW or 4.0KW.

Yes, it could be a typo on their part,

(in the sidebar of their ad, they say a 23 amp charger can take it from 0 to 100% in 12 hours ... that's 276 amp-hours)

From the specs on the page (and posted above by yourself) they show 1500 watts continuous discharge (1500/12=125 amps, 1500/13.6=110 amps)
And Max Discharge of 200 amps.
Far shy of 300 amps for one battery. (or any number in series).


BUT i'll go for "typo", since their "Watt capacity (kW)" is listed as 3.6 (should be kWh)
