Oh you poor fellow !
Come on man if you value
"time" and YOU claiming to be
"Fleet man" will know the
value of wheel stop time and fleet availability.
Furthermore you advocate using a vital ball joint made in places like China with dubious quality back grounds for the repair/overhaul.
Then, resort to demonstrating back yard "Hogwarts Shop" methods to replace it, with the possibility of it flying a part with the distinct possibility of personal injury!
Which by the way reinforces the fact that it is cheaper in this repair incidence with the 906 suspension, to simply replace it when worn with a complete
new unit from MB since they are still available at a reasonable price .
Several things are salient apart from the use of genuine parts such things as suspension & brakes.
1) You make no real reference to the condition is the two sllentbloc bushes supporting the lower control arm to the frame and their distinct possibility of deterioration over years of use prior the ball joint replacement activity .
2) You make NO reference to safety procedures in an industrial activity, risking injury which even a simple visit to a A& E medical facility will cost at least $500 up.
Frankly "Your How" To post is loaded with
back yard tinkering methods consuming a huge amount of time, and effort to reclaim a vital part of the vehicle. Fine I suppose if you like being engaged in dubious cost saving activities using minimal tooling, as an amateur's activity, when the practical alternative is a new genuine MB subcomponent with a projected serviced life of around 250,000 miles and installed in 1,5 hours from wheel off to wheel back on..
Now I will close AGAIN mentioning a bunch of American women (as customers) who run fleets of Sprinter van for "fido transport" across the country. GETTING phenomenal mileages & reliability enjoyment that a lot of American male Sprinter owners includes many this forum site could only dream about.!
Several things are salient though ! They each
BUDGET for repairs using service Apps and parts are
routinely replaced with planned docking of their vans for service replacement of
all genuine parts! This is regarded as a cost overhead in a professional approach to running a fleet of vans all built into
their charge out rates. AND they have no time for using cheap methods of repairs for service longevity & reliability with minimal wheel stop time.
This stark comparison is embarrassing as a male .who are it seems rapidly becoming the softer side of the population, with tinker repair methods versus the professional approach .Think about it for a moment and do your sums using the right head !!!.
By the way do you use hand creme and apply Georgio before going to work everyday ?
