I've had the Nations 2nd Alternator for about 1 year. Roughly 25K miles with it installed. Last weekend I parked, walked into the store and while I was gone it started smoking and burning up.
1) It's the 3 belt 280amp 12V kit wired directly to the house battery, no connection to the starter battery.
2) Alternator was wired to the WS500 for regulation.
3) I have a 680ah Lithium batter bank (4 x Renogy 170ah).
I had noticed via my SmartShunt that the voltage would go above 14.4v and it would turn off the second alternator for a while, then it would re-engage and work it's way back up to over 14.4 volts and shut off again.
? Did I need another component? I thought WS500 should have handled the voltage and charging, or did I have a faulty alternator that didn't regulate it's own voltage?
? Does anyone what alternator this came with? Nations isn't getting back to me on why type to replace it with?
