2020 Passenger 4x4 144
Today I did the first fuel filter change on my 2020 Passenger 144 4x4. I took notes from many forum posts and tried to follow a process to avoid the many costly errors others have suffered while attempting this. There was a decent video I found on Youtube with good information. Today another video was posted as well. In both videos The plastic "T" was left vulnerable during the procedure. Both videos also had procedures removing the Turbo intake hose without replacing the turbo intake gasket and not Torqueing the Turbo intake hose clamp to the specified Torque (3 Nm). Apparently people have had Turbo fin damage after replacing the Fuel filter. Mercedes Voids the warrantee if the gasket was not replaced and/or they find the hose clamp not torqued correctly. One person reported a 7 Grand bill out of pocket to fix the Turbo after the warrantee was voided. Mercedes put out a service bulletin to check the above before honoring any Turbo warrantee. A forum member posted that he accomplished the filter change leaving the Turbo intake hose connected to the Turbo, and just removing the other end of the hose from the air filter housing. That is the procedure I followed today. It is a little more difficult working around the Turbo intake hose, but it alleviates having to replace the Turbo gasket. I believe the correct part number for the turbo intake gasket is 0000940051. It is currently on sale at AutohausAZ for $31.69.

Both videos were done well and I appreciate the hard work that goes into doing the procedure and filming the process. In neither video did they break the plastic "t" and I imagine Turbo fin damage is a rare, although very costly, occurrence. My write-up therefore will supplement these excellent videos and highlight the above safeguards. I left the intake hose attached for my first filter change to appreciate the process. I do plan on purchasing the above mentioned gasket to have on hand for next time, should I choose to remove the intake hose.
This is not a difficult procedure and the above is not to deter anyone from doing this themselves. In fact, the additional few EASY precautions to take will help you avoid the above issues.
