Max fan or Fan-tastc

Greetings from one of the few James Cook iin the U.K. I have only just discovered this sub forum! I want to install either a Fantastic Fan or a Maxxfan in the bathroom. I have an Endkess Breeze wedged there at moment. Can those of you with a Maxxfan post some photos so that I can see what the overhang looks like at the rear? Also, if showering with either does the rain sensor then close the vent- which would be counter productive! Thanks.

Haven’t installed yet, but purchased a Euro MaxxFan from Heatso in the UK.

The MaxxFan Deluxe doesn’t have a rain sensor, as the lid is designed to allow it operate in the rain. Tested the unit and it is extremely quiet and has a wide range of speeds. Below are some pics of a Westy that has already installed the MaxxFan.

Thanks. V helpful to see the images. The overhang closed is not as awkward looking as I thought it might be. The prices in the U.K. at the moment for the deluxe with smoked lid are £299 which I think is a good price. The 7350Fan-Tastic is £410 by comparison and I don’t think it is as useful as we get a lot of rain in the U.K.! Also my experience of the Heki 4 on the Cook was that the rain sensor closed the lid at the slightest dampness including from cooking inside. So I did the modification to provide a manual overide switch for the rain sensor- made a huge difference. So I will order the Maxxfan. Two queations: first, any views on smokes versus tinted lids? Second, can someone point me to any helpful threads on installing it on the Cook- shouldn’t need rocket science but there are always ways of doing it that are easier to learn from others experience ? Great sub forum by the way.

I have the MaxxFan with the rain cover. Here's the clearance i needed to "miss" my solar rack:

Fan-to-Rack-Gap.jpg

The primary "down-side" of the rain cover is that it lowers the peak airflow from (whatever) to 900 cubic feet per minute.

Here's the Up/Down difference:

Dick thanks for this. Has set me thinking. My flexible solar panels start immediately in front of the existing Heki vent. So I’m wondering what the width of the fixing trim around the max fan is on the roof ( ie will it be any wider than the one on the Heki) so that when fitted and when closed and open it doesn’t foul my solar. Any thoughts out there?

How wide is the one on the Heki?

Based upon this 7500 dimensions drawing (and me doing a "scaling" from the 9" photo (it's raining out)), the lip is an inch:
(based upon the 7 inch and 8 inch "from roof cut-out" note)

That also matches my "two strips of 1/2 butyl tape" application.

first, any views on smokes versus tinted lids?
In the USA, the tinted lid (almost clear) isn’t even offered. Even though ordered from the UK, went ahead and purchased the smoke lid. Just looking through it in the house, the smoke lid lets in enough light. It’s what we were looking for, as the clear Heki Mini allowed too much light/heat in. If you are trying to keep as much natural light in the bathroom as possible, tint would be a the one to buy. Alternatively, the white lid supposedly lets the least amount of light in. Below is how Airxcel compares the white and smoke lids.

https://www.airxcel.com/rv/maxxair/service-support/maxxair-faqs#

Airxcel FAQ:
“2. Does the translucent white or smoke-tinted lid allow in more light?
A. Both lid colors will let light into the RV. The smoke-tinted lid is similar to sunglasses or tinted windows and will allow more light and heat into the RV. Both lids are designed with materials to provide long life in extreme sun and weather conditions.”

Thanks Dick and Camp for these. The lip on the Heki is about an inch as well so solar should be ok. As for the lid colour it’s a difficult one. On dark overcast days we appreciate how light the bathroom is but on hot bright days there is too much light and heat in there even with the frosted cover of the mini Heki. However if the effect of the smoked lid is like sunglasses then that’s not too strong a tint and I hope a bit like having the insect screen shut on the mini Heki. So my inclination is to go for the smoked lid.
Would like to get it done soon. We’r starting our 14th week of Covid Lockdown here and until recently couldn’t even take the Cook out for the day. However from next weekend we will be free to stay out for the night in the Cook. So looking forward to some wild camping- what I think you would call Boondocking?

A Westy for sale has two MaxxFans installed, though I can’t immediately tell which model.

Thanks for this Camp. RV Site denies me access as from the EU! Whilst looking for best deals came across the Maxxfan Plus. No overhang and like a Fantastic Fan with a rain sensor. So no rain hood. Significantly cheaper than the 7350 Fantastic Fan and looks as if it has the same motor as the Maxxfan Deluxe- which is allegedly quieter than the Fantastic motor. That has made me pause the purchase of the Deluxe as it would be nice not to have an overhang. Any views out there?

As for cover color, we wanted that little bit of extra light, but did not want direct sunlight entry (which the swirly smoke allows).
So we went "white" (which has a slight pinkish tinge when viewed from the inside ... but that may be eye/brain color correction due to the slightly tinted windows)
