Sprinter day camper (in progress)

I made a little more progress:

The galley is starting to come together with all of the compartments and covers.

Mostly missing latch hardware and the exterior panels bonded.

Everything made from aluminum, alucobond (2 aluminum skins with a solid polyethylene core, light but dense) and alumalite (2 aluminum skins with a corrugated polyethylene core, very light)

let's start with the "before" picture:

...and the after:

You can see all of the covers I added to create extra compartments and hide the sink, microwave and fridge.

It's still missing the exterior panels, I had them on, but I won't bond them permanently untill I have plumbed and wired everything.

Below the sink is the waste tank with quick disconnect.

Fresh water tank is in the doghouse between the galley and the drivers seat.

The pump for the sink is in the lower center of the last picture.

There is an easteregg for "eagle-eye" seek in picture 4

Bed extension for the sleeper bench:

With the seatback folded back and the seat towards the rear, it will extend the sleeping area to a full-size bed.

With the seatback folded forward and the seat slid forwards the bed-extension is level with the folded seat to make a plattform for sheet good.

All aluminum profiles are from 8020

You're not talking about the corner, are you George? Since it will be covered up, I wouldn't even notice it. :smirk:

I really like this design...

...and how the faucet collapses into the sink and the cover goes over everything. An awesomely clean design. :clapping:

How much energy does the refrigerator use?

My wife will love this running water scheme. Hmmm...

Thanks for the ideas.

Seek,

The fridge draws 0.8 A.

Since it cycles on and off depending on ambient temperature, its energy usage isn't fixed.
The two sealed lead acid batteries under the passenger can run it about 1-3 days untill the inverter low voltage alarm is tripped.

I've noticed keeping a bag of ice in the fridge prolongs the time significantly. Even with temps around 100F I can get 2 days out of it.

ok Seek, I should have been more specific, here's the picture with the easter-egg for you:

happy hunting

Hi George:

Let me throw some items out there. :smirk:

Funny thing is we own a Subaru too, but a Forester. I forgot to point out the white truck (Ford F150?). We have a white truck too. :smirk:

Still a very nice cabinet!

George, the one across the street, just to the left of the pickup?

I can barely eek that one out. :smirk:

You must've been a bad influence on your neighbors! :clapping:

Seek, that's it, my neighbor's Sprinter across the street.

They actually have 3 Sprinters for their business,

but this one is always in the driveway...

My galley installed in the Sprinter:

The doghouse behing the drivers seat has the clean water tank,
the wastewater collects below the sink on the left.

In the center the fridge and microwave are concealed behind a folding door

The hinged aluminum panels on the top are to access the 2 storage compartments behind and above the microwave.

so here was my original idea for tunes:

cut a hole and install a touchscreen hooked up to a powerbook running iTunes

but this was much easier

All I had to do is move the ASR and locking switches to the right,
drill a hole in the compartment on the center console and
run a cable to the iPhone cradle and plug in.

I'll get more sophisticated later, for now but it works great ;-)

Seek,

Where did you get the dual 12v female part that fits insde the ashtray?

I would like to do the same setup. Did yiu have to trim the panel, or is it a straight fit?

Cheers,

Tibor

Looks to me like an AC power strip outlet? :idunno:

I filled my ashtray with some 12V sockets.

I got the 12V sockets from Digikey, although I have to find the part numbers. I found the sockets that had the shortest length so that it could fit into ash tray.

I also had to cut out the bottoms of the ash tray (dremel) and cut and epoxied a plastic piece for the sockets to sit in. I wish it were easier.

I have one more ash tray to work on and that is for the 120VAC for the right side of the vehicle. I don't even have that DC/AC converter installed yet.

Must be TOUGH to have to buy an iPHONE...

I think I should tell my wife that the backup camera/screen has to be 1080P, at least 37", DiLA or LCOS...

Thanks for the Idea,

The VW Pasajeros (aka T5) is available in Mexico and hence I'd suspect there are crashed ones or new parts available from dealers and yards there. Of course, with NAFTA I'd assume it would be easier to import the parts as well or have them shipped to the US. Is anyone on the list near or in Mexico and able to verify any of this?

The only problem is that those are the regular T5.

It has a fixed hard point seat mounting system similar to our sprinters.

It's only the T5 Multivan that has the seat track...

believe me when I was down in mexico I was looking...
They do have real MB Sprinters in Mexico...

George...where did you source the fittings for the sink and the collection jug?

On the jug, it looks like a valve of some sort. How is it attached to the cover?

Thanks!
