I have a 2006 , 2.7 158" cargo van I am installing a rear view camera I found the backup wire in tail light white red stripe but the backup lights don't work. I suspect its the backup switch on the tranny bad because the lights are good all fuses are good.
Once I get backup lights working I need to know where to and how to get to back up light wiring in dashboard area?
This is my first post I am not real computer friendly (must be my age 65) the reason for post with out anything but text.
Thank you in advance for any help I can get on this I call my van a "rolling blindspot"

The Sprinter's backup light "switch" (it's really a transistor turned on by one of the small computers) is inside the shift lever assembly (SLA) on the dashboard.

You can download a full service manual for the 2006 from here: http://aie-services-2.net/Sprinter/
Specifically: http://aie-services-2.net/Sprinter/2006-VA-SM.pdf

Removing the SLA is covered in chapter 21, starting at that chapter's page 168 (i.e. 21-168, or page 1208 in Acrobat Reader)

Here's the wiring diagram from section 8w of the service manual:

Hello There!

I haven't played much in that area because I don't have problems of yet, but goes some info/pictures that might help you:

The reverse light switch is not located in the transmission, it's in the shift lever assembly (SLA), and that signal goes to the TCM (transmission control module) that is located under the driver seat. This passes through connector C202, I think this is the one connected diectly to the SLA. You could disconnect and start testing continuity and voltage.

Good luck!

For my rear view camera, I specifically did not wire it to reverse switch/lights, as there are some times I like to use it when not reversing. E.g. making sure the bikes are still on the bike rack after a jarring bump. I just wired it to a switch on the shifter control panel.

On my T1N 2006 Sprinter, the 12V Reverse wire is white with a red stripe. It's located under the driver side dash area in a wire bundle. It's the wire to splice into to make a back-up camera and monitor turn on automatically whenever the vehicle is placed in Reverse gear.

I also connected it to a SPST switch, which allows me to turn on the backup cam anytime (don't need to be in reverse) to see the rear-view action in the LCD panel monitor. Works great, especially with no windows in the rear cargo doors.

Wow, this is very valuable info.
Nice rig as well.
I just started converting 2004 Sprinter. 140 wb.
Looking for 1 big solar panel or 3~4 100w panels, now.
Just visited your link and looks very nice!
I am in Miami.
thanks,

I concur with others here regarding the back up camera. I prefer to have it on a switch so I can control it. The problem for me, with having it on when in reverseis at night, is if you mount it high up, the brake lights can white out the image. So I can’t see an image with the brake lights on, but I can’t turn on the camera without needing the brakes on. This is Especially true when it is wet out. I have a big steel rear step, and have my camera pointed almost straight down so I can observe my van crashing into and destroying the puny plastic bumpers of the opposition.?

I just installed a new radio with video for camera. In my 2003 T1N the wire bundle behind the shifter, the reverse wire is white with red stripe.
It is accessible by removing the shifter bezel and then pulling out the accessory tray in the center console below the dash buttons. 1 screw at that location and then you can pry up the center console dash button piece. The wire bundle is on the left behind the shifter.

@eagle2232 Just what I was looking for! I am about to install my backup camera and was hoping there was a way to turn on automatically with putting gear in reverse. Curious where did you mount your SPST switch? Is there a way to put it in the existing instrument panel dashboard?

Also, your Instagram shot shows the display monitor wired into the Auxillary fuse panel. Is that the one under the driver's seat or is that a separate one for all your appliances, solar, etc?

Thanks
