I was dissatisfied with the position of the accelerator pedal on my 2000 312D Sprinter bus. It seemed to be designed by an idiot really. Or perhaps by a person with the right leg shorter that the left
Possibly a function of the left to right conversion. But unsatisfactory for whatever reason.
When we purchased it, we immediately fitted a solid block on the floor, about 40mm thick, to sit the heel on, so the angle of the foot was flatter and more comfortable. That worked better but still was far from ideal. I have seen something similar on several others Sprinters.
so we are not the only ones dissatisfied.
So I devised another solution after some thought. A two stage process.
1 The flexible foot pedal was removed completely, and the plastic arm top surface was ground level. An aluminum pad, slightly curved was attached to the plastic arm with a couple of self tapping metal thread countersunk head screws. That lowered it about 20-25mm.
2 the accelerator cable was modified. The outer cable was shortened by about 25mm to allow the pedal to fall about 30mm lower.
The outer cable is metal wound with a plastic inner. So careful grinding and cooling will enable the metal to be removed without melting the plastic sleeving. Slowly and a wet rag. Then the inner sleeve can be cut and removed. The inner cable which is also plastic coated must not be damaged.
I then made a couple of suitable sized hard plastic split tubes to 'splice' the join and clamped it with two small hose clamps.
The pedal now reaches the floor when fully depressed. The angle of my ankle is more normal and it does not stress out the lower leg as it did before after a time driving.
My metal knee joint is happier 
Possibly it may be better to shorten the end of the outer cable where it goes into the bracket. However I decided that it was easier to do what I did. It works well.
