Default 318 CDI VS Sprinter 2500

Does anybody known what differences there are between the European Sprinter (318 CDI) and the American Sprinter (2500)?

What did Mercedes have to do to the Sprinter to get it into the states?

The main differences are Global sprinter's have both higher HP and Higher maximum torque match to a slight variation on the transmission ratios on auto Nag1 versus W5A-380 standard version of the five speed auto .The NAFTA Splinters have a de-tuned engines in all variations.
the 318 cdi is now discontinued since July 2009
