It was never in my mind to set controls over the Sprinter Forum community. This issue came up early this week and my hands were tied in trying to keep the community free from barriers and the offending member from doing any further damage (no damage actually, just more unnecessary work). I think as the forum grows, it's going to be harder and harder to police. The biggest losers will probably be its members as the privileges start to tighten. I think this is true for any community.

I'll go ahead and leave it at the day setting and give HKPierce full editing privileges. At least if HKPierce gets mad for whatever reason, I only have to deal with him.

On a side note, who's going to keep me from getting mad and deleting everything? I really don't know. I hope my kids have instilled in me with enough patience that I don't go off on a power trip. Well, maybe my wife will do that.

Good point Don.

I like your decision here. There are two types of posts: 1)Like this one, where this opinion deserves no editing after an hour; and 2) the large number of archival posts that HK Pierce, Sikwan, and others have made for all our benefit (e.g., installation, changing oil, etc). This second type of post deserves editing to correct and add to them. Perhaps, someone who makes this type of posting can request permission to edit when there is a need... Al

The time and effort required to maintain a dictatorship's library of sikwan-approved content should be an effective barrier for the few moments that we'd stick around before the mass abandonment.

I'd be fine with an hour long retraction window.

That'd require administrative attention by a trusted super user.

I'm not suggesting the notion's without merit.

I'm just not sure how scalable that would be w/o nominating one or two moderators per subforum that could service the requests.

I think I'll go with Al, Don, and Jon's suggestion to keep it to a minimum; right now 1hr. If we need to increase this, we'll revisit this issue with new reasons.

HK will get the full edit privilege too.

Thanks!

I think one hour sucks. We are not kids. At least a day is reasonable.

That one bad apple should have been banned before he caused that big of a head ache for you here.

Thank You Sikwan for all your terrific hard work on this forum.

I'm a newbie here, and haven't done other forums much before this, but this thread reminds me of the problems we have with keeping things free and fully useable for everyone. Eventually, someone comes along and abuses the system. I believe an administrator, like a facilitator at a meeting, has the nasty job of censoring or excluding those that do abuse things.
I also think 24 hours is more than enough time to correct mistakes. Quite generous, in fact. I was surprised to hear someone would want to, because as has been stated, once read, i won't read it again. I'll look for further postings and corrections, but will only read a thread once. I don't have time to go over it again.

Again, Thank You Seek
