ORION, my incandescent 21w bulb draws 2.1A so I'm doubling there about the light and only using 1/4 the power or quadrupiling, the light and only using 1/2 the power, YMMV. 2

I run an LED as a trail headlight on my Husaberg and it is very bright. It cost about $100 but it is not a legal road light. They do make some LED headlights now but they are entire swap in units and they are very expensive....

Mine will be in the 30-40 range based on singles or packs.

Default New LED Headlight Bulbs

LEDs are definitely the way of the future. Please let me/community know about availability. FWIW, the 6000 HID lamps in my Sprinter are just OK. I would prefer a better lamp for sure and I'm betting so would many users of this forum.

Please keep us updated as to what is available - I would be very happy to buy them for a reasonable price, test, and give feedback.

Dave

But surely if your sprinter with it's headlight monitoring computer was built to use a halogen filled incandescent lamp then you need to replace it with something of equivalent resistance to convince the monitoring system that all is OK. You can do this by adding a resistor to the LED array, but once you have the same resistance as the original bulb, it will draw the same power and current as the original bulb and you save nothing. You may increase your bling if that's what your interest is, but it isn't going to reduce your electrical load.

You can fit all the aftermarket lights you want to new connections from the battery (I think aftermarket DRLs and possibly fog lights mounted in the bumper could be a good idea), but as far as I can tell you can't really get around the modern sprinters existing lighting circuits without a lot of effort. In UK DRLs need to be connected to the headlight circuit by a relay so that they go off when the headlights come on - DRLs too bright to use at night, would dazzle other drivers, but the relay should not make any difference to the monitoring.

Also be aware that super bright LEDs can generate quite a lot of heat, that's why they usually come mounted to their own radiator.

I am quite sure LEDs will be the headlights of the future, I'm just not convinced they are necessarily a sensible upgrade path, better to wait until you have a new car/van that was designed to use them.

(being very careful not to appear smug about my old rust bucket not having any of that complexity)

At least here in NAFTA (US/Canada) -land, there is no monitoring of the headlamps in the T1N Sprinters.
Dave's 2006 falls into that category (according to the 2006 service manual... reality may differ)

Mebbe not. But if I get more light, I'll be happy and I'll pay $$ willingly. My T1N's headlights are pathetic.

Ah, I see.
I thought all that stuff started around 10 years ago and figured MB would have been one of the first on the bandwagon, if it mostly only affects NCV3's that makes things much easier for the T1N crowd
