No, I am not paying anyone $175/hr to cook me soup when I can get this for $1 and throw in a chicken breast from Costco

A culinary delight especially when accompanied by a bottle of vintage Mad Dog 20/20.

MD 20/20
18% or 13% alc. by vol.

As majestic as the cascading waters of a drain pipe, MD 20/20 is bottled by the 20/20 wine company in Westfield, New York.

Bring back any memories? (I don't believe that Mogen David even makes the original 20/20 these days.)

Exactly
That's why people who engage in high end cuisine make a lot of money if you are good at it.
Furthermore profit margins are very high in the business often in the 200% to 1000% category.

Watch this for a different approach to your can of soup and Chef Gordon Ramsey signature restaurant as he hosts the ultimate competition.

Not to get this thread back on track or anything, but my father-in-law is a trained baker born in Italy, baking since he was 8 years old, (literally) and came to the US at 18. As we all know, baking is completely dependent on following recipes to a T. He's also owned a restaurant for many of the past 30 years. He is well renowned in our area as a great cook/ chef. He takes the same approach to cooking as he does to baking - everything is written down, followed, weighed or measured, etc. He's had great success.

My wife doesn't bake. She's a great cook. She doesn't follow a recipe at all. It's whatever is in her head.

Either method can work. The results lie within the individual preparing and cooking, IMO.

Ciao.

Best thing that ever happened to me was my wife's first job, long before I met her. She was an apprentice in the highest-end restaurant in Vancouver and learned from European masters.

She works nearly exclusively from recipes and writes everything down when she improvises. She is extraordinary.

She also has an amazingly good sense of smell.

Me, I've learned from her how to prep. My privilege!

The wife often just throws things to together and she is pretty good at it, however few months ago I got scolded by a few of her friends when I was critical with the dinner.
I told them, sometimes things don't work out and you gotta speak up.
if I tell her it was great, she is just gonna cook it again.
