My wife and I used the toughguard protection that The Sprinter Store near Portland sells. We put it on just before we drove to Lawrence, Kansas and back from Pasadena a few weeks ago for graduation week-end and KU's school of architecture's open house Studio 804 project. We dodged the tornadoes, but the torrents of rain kept the van clean and slick.

If you need something to remove bugs out on the road (like at fuel stops), try Pledge and a microfiber cloth. Motorcyclists have been using the stuff to remove their entomology collections for decades.

No matter what you use, the longer you leave them on there, the worse it's gonna be. Some bug guts will eat through the paint of some cars.
