Just FYI, After cleaning my EGR valve there was no noticeable difference in throttle response or "turbo lag" :-( So for me the issue was elsewhere... I had a bad injector. Well, at least my EGR valve is clean!

On that note, mine was a real bastard to get loose... you can get a very small flat blade screwdriver on each side and gently work them like apposable wedges... then bigger screwdrivers. Be careful not to damage the machined surface or the gasket!

First: Suggest you try giving the EGR's self cleaning a chance to put right the sticking valve.
Every time you shut off the Key the self cleaning action starts EGR cleaning; you can hear the cycling of the valve (9 times) along with ultrasonic action that last approx 30sec.

Give the key self cleaning action (a sequential 5 times session -approx total 2.5min cleaning and giving it a chance to clear it's-self of a carbon flake stuck between the valve and it's seat; a carbon flake that would cause the valve to react sluggish or stick.
---------------
There lots of write ups on cleaning the EGR, - I did one!

I notice occasional sticking after the few times our van has sat for more than 2-3 weeks with maybe an occasional start up to move around the driveway. It seems like this often triggers the EGR valve stuck symptoms. When I'm running the van weekly long and hot miles like we usually use our van I never see those symptoms.
