Default Mercedes Extended Warranty

Just thought I'd mention this because I have not seen it mentioned anywhere else. Any purchaser of a new Unity or Serenity for that matter can purchase a new vehicle extended warranty directly from Mercedes Benz. 6 year 160,000 km is the most they offer. Also includes 0$ deductible and North American roadside assistance for the same period.

If you like warranties, this is one to read up on.

In evaluating this alternative, note that it is an INCLUSIONARY warranty, meaning that only the enumerated items are covered, and there is a LOT that is not enumerated. In particular, this warranty does NOT cover the Sprinter's problematic and expensive-to-repair emissions system.

IMO, it is not a very good warranty for the price.

Note also, that you can purchase these warranties at any time prior to the expiration of the basic new vehicle warranty. No reason to rush into it.

Not worth it. Offer $500.00 and be firm.

Thanks for your reply Avanti however I must disagree with your assessment. I understand not everyone likes extended warranties. This Mercedes Benz warranty is not a third party warranty and would be best compared with what is offered at the selling RV dealership. The difference is night and day - did I mention $0 deductible?, as well as several thousand dollars less expensive. To each his own!

As far the referenced emissions systems goes, the RV dealer extended warranties do not cover those either.

I like extended warranties just fine. Just not very expensive inclusionary extended warranties.

The Mercedes warranty is best compared with a high-quality EXCLUSIONARY OEM warranty such as, for example, that offered by Honda:

You are correct that OEM warranties make much more sense than third-party offerings. I would never even consider the latter. But that doesn't make any given OEM warranty worth buying. You actually have to READ them. Comparing a bad warranty with an awful warranty does not make the bad one good. Suggest you study the facts rather than relying on empty beliefs.

Ok avanti, at least you agreed with me on one point. Good luck getting Honda to warranty your Sprinter. As far as your comment concerning my empty beliefs, I did include the link to the OEM extended warranty information - kind of a stretch to call that *empty beliefs*.

You know perfectly well that I included the Honda warranty only as a point of comparison.

The "empty belief" that I refer to is the belief that one should purchase an extended warranty regardless of value, and that the only question is which one is "best". Sometimes the correct answer is "none of the above".

This debate (?) reminds me of an old blind test concerning CD Players when they had been out awhile. Audiophiles swore they could tell the difference if top-quality equipment was used. I think it was Stereo Magazine that decided to find out, over several months. Their results showed the audiophiles could not tell the difference. However, their conclusion is what seems pertinent here: "There IS a difference if YOU think there IS a difference." Extended Warranties give a lot of people a certain Peace-of-Mind. To some of us, that's their only value. Try as I might, I can never talk anyone who refuses to do research out of them. What kind of research? I would try finding any reports online from people who own that specific Warranty and then had to make a claim. Doing this saved my bacon when my dealer hit me up hard with their aftermarket Extended Warranty on my new LTV. Boy, did I ever get an earful from people who had dealt with those companies before. At least Mercedes is not hiding their offering under three layers of misdirects as to "parent company" names -- as many of the others are.

My guess is, Mercedes does not cover the emissions system because they are very close to the VW / BMW / Audi / Daimler emissions scandal. I haven't found anything further on the supposed investigation that was being conducted by Mercedes to see if they were going to be penalized. I may be wrong, but if all these emissions systems eventually are declared illegal, I doubt any company would want their Warranty placing them firmly in the crosshairs.

But I do not try to talk anyone out of Extended Warranties. If it gives them Peace-of-Mind, who am I to say "Nay"?

Having said all this, Wholesale Warranties seems to garner nice accolades. One of the few that do. But I have not sought out any owners of their Warranty to find out if it's as care-free for the RV owner as they claim.

By the way -- just an observation here -- but I do not think Skeena was PROMOTING this warranty. Skeena merely mentioned that it exists, and said "If you like warranties, this is one to read up on." Let's not kill the messenger.
